HURRICANES around campusSPIRITUAL LIFE AT MARIANFor those who wonder how much of a spiritual presencethere is at <strong>Marian</strong> <strong>Central</strong>, the answers may surprise you.Daily Mass is offered in the chapel after school with specificgroups and teams assigned a date. Once a month studentscome together in the main gym for all school Masses,which are open to the public. Retreats are scheduled duringthe school year and Reconciliation is available. SpiritualDirector, Msgr. Brodeski, is at the school on Tuesdays forlunch with the students and is working with departmentheads on incorporating faith and morals into subject matter.Head of Religious Studies, Fr. Thomas Doyle, is on sitefull time and is available for counseling when not teaching.The students feel supported by his presence at extracurricularactivities. Five other priests are part time teachers and available for counseling.Religious formation classes are held every day for all students. Students are involved withsocial outreach programs such as helping serve food to the homeless and organizing fooddrives. We are in the third year of a mentor program for freshmen. New this year is a teengrief support group, a pro-life group and regular Bible study. For the future, the Kairosretreat program and peer ministry are being considered.DEVELOPMENT newsFr. Both are membersof the <strong>Marian</strong> JV Dance Squad.ANNUAL FUND GOAL OF $125,000The Annual Fund Appeal is growing under the leadership of Kim and Joe ’80 Doherty, McHenry,and Barb and John Weiler, Lake In The Hills. They assembled a large group of volunteers inOctober and made the six nights more enjoyable with Buffalo Wild Wings to munch on and FastEddie’s Car Wash drawings every night. John Bauer, Sheila Biell, Taylor Myers ’09, Sam Schmidt’09, and Jean Reckamp won the car washes. Bryan was named the BigTen Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year this pastseason.
