427. Signed StephenHolland “Ali 1965”Giclee-on-CanvasQuestions will always linger regardingMuhammad Ali’s quick disposalof challenger Sonny Liston in their1965 rematch. Did Ali’s “phantom”punch spell Liston’s demise? Couldany of the record-low 2,434 onlookerssay they definitively saw Aliland that fatal blow? As clouded asthe details are regarding the boutand its curious setting inLewistown, Maine, it producedarguably the most famous image inthe annals of sport: a Neil Feiferphotograph capturing Ali defiantlytowering over his beaten foe.Limited to just 96, this StephenHolland artist’s rendition of thattimeless gesture is boldly autographedby both the famous subjectand artist. Measuring 25-1/2 x 41”,this hand-enhanced giclee-on-canvascaptures the (then) 23-year-oldchampion towering over the fallenex-titlist. Speculation was thatListon bet against himself that nightand took a dive as a favor to underworldacquaintances. The onlydefinitive truth was that the brashAli stood over Liston, shouting,“Get up and fight, sucker!” as refereeJersey Joe Walcott looked on.Vivid imagery and vibrant colors comprise the fare in this breathtaking work. Thoseattributes, however, are trumped by Ali’s gold Sharpie penning, which was executedin sizable characters to trumpet (“9-10”) strength and clarity. Holland’s penning showssimilar quality. The piece bears a limited edition status of “27/96” and comes with aCOA from Sports Placement Service, Inc. Unique Muhammad Ali Autographed BoxingGlove with Original SketchThe presented autographed Everlast boxing glove may be “the greatest” andnot just because Muhammad Ali signed the piece. The large, bold black inksignature is just one draw to this glove; the large boxing ring drawing – donein Ali’s hand – dominates the upper portion of the piece. All the ink work waspenned by Ali with the boxing ring image resembling the ”Sting Like a Bee”serigraph art that Ali produced. The drawing and signature both grade (“9”),and the vintage glove shows mild usage (although it is unclear if Ali himselfwore the glove). This marvelous artifact, unique in nature, comes with a fullphoto LOA from James Spence Authentications and an accompanying LOAfrom Peter Morkovin.Opening Bid $750.00430. “Sting Like a Bee” Serigraph - Created and Signed byMuhammad AliPresented is a beautiful serigraph created and signed by Muhammad Ali in 1979. Ali produced(5) different serigraph pieces, but this is the only boxing- related issue. Dubbed Sting Like a Bee,this image bears an uncanny resemblance to the drawing on the signed boxing glove (also on thispage of the auction). The 22x26 artwork is #388/500 and has a large pencil signature of Ali inthe lower right corner, grading (“9”). The item comes with an auction LOA from James SpenceAuthentications.Opening Bid $300.00MORE IMAGES AND DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS AVAILABLE ON OUR WEBSITE: WWW.HUGGINSANDSCOTT.COM85
