PRESSRELEASEFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEDATE OF ISSUE: MONDAY 25 JUNE 2012A HAIR RAISING SPECTACULAR FROM STUDENTS!Hairdressing students from <strong>Yeovil</strong> <strong>College</strong> came together with their families, friends and staff to celebrate theirsuccesses at a spectacular catwalk and awards show as part of the <strong>College</strong>’s Festival of Achievement.Students studying at <strong>Yeovil</strong> <strong>College</strong> and the North Dorset Skills Centre (Shaftesbury) presentedimaginative designs based on either ‘Fantasy or ‘Historical’ themes. The Level 1, 2 and 3 students,including, apprentices, 16-19 and part-time students, were responsible for the complete look, includinghair, make up and costume.The audience of friends, family and special guests were delighted by designs inspired by Tribal, Wizardof Oz, Alice in Wonderland, Punk, Under the sea, Recycle me, Military, 1980s Punk, Geisha and AvantGarde themes. Students who won awards from the North Dorset Technical <strong>College</strong> will be presented atan additional awards ceremony in Shaftesbury on Tuesday 26 th June.Chris Burton, Faculty Director for Sport, Hair Beauty and Complementary Therapies, said “This eveningis visible evidence of the excellent hairdressing skills and creative talent of all of our students. The staffhave been working with their students to help encourage them to produce challenging and strikingdesigns and the students have excelled themselves. This event provides our students with a platform toshowcase their talent to the local community”The night ended with an awards presentation. NVQ Level 2 Student of the Year was awarded to RosiePowell and NVQ Level 3 Student of the Year was Sammie Daniels who was also celebrating her birthdayon the night. Olivia Bedwell received the VRQ level 2 award and Stephanie Randell was congratulatedfor winning the Photographic Hair and Make Up Award. Annalise Collis won the Creative Craft Awardwhilst Megan Knight won the level 2, Work based Learning Award. Megan was highlighted for hertremendous commitment to the course. The level 3 Work based Learning Award was presented toCasey Brown who excelled in her assessments. The overall title of Most Outstanding Achievement ofthe Year went to Tanya Douris.Student Kaylee Taylor from <strong>Yeovil</strong>, who is studying her Level 3 Hairdressing Apprenticeship with CyrilGallie in <strong>Yeovil</strong>, chose a theme of ‘Under the Sea’ with her model Hannah Cottrell presented as a SeaQueen. Hannah said “I have really enjoyed the experience of taking part in the Hair Show, it took two


hours to complete the hair and makeup on my model, but it was worth it!.
