YourStudents’ AssociationSince, 1963, when the first Students’ Association was formed at Red River College, students atthis institution have been organizing to make student life better. All students who pay studentfees become members of the SA, including full-time and part-time students as well as thoseenrolled in Continuing and Distance Education courses.The SA acts primarily as an advocate for student concerns, publishes a student newspaper,and offers many different activities throughout the school year. On June 10, 1974, the SA wasincorporated by an act of the Manitoba Legislature making it an independent legal and businessentity.Your Students’ Association conducts several revenue generating services including the OxStudent Store at the Notre Dame campus, and the Red River Mercantile at the Princess Streetcampus. As you will read in this guide, the SA provides many other services and programsto enhance your student life.Each year a general student election is held (Exercise your right to vote!) for the four SAexecutive positions; President, Vice President Academic, Vice President Support Services,Vice President Princess Street Campus. Students must be registered at RRC to run for officeand while serving their term. The President’s position is almost a full-time position while thevice presidents’ are required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week. All executive officersearn a salary commensurate with the number of hours required for their respective positions.In addition to the executive officers, the SA employs a team of professional staff membersto help manage its business affairs.
