<strong>Red</strong> <strong>River</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>Students</strong>’ Association 2009-10 DayplannerStudent RightsThe rights of an individual who forms part of acommunity are never absolute. Consequently,the following rights of students are subject tothe responsibilities outlined in the Code andthe applicable policies of the <strong>College</strong> and the<strong>Red</strong> <strong>River</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>Students</strong>’ Association.Academic Rights<strong>Students</strong> have the right to:a) have access to information on all <strong>College</strong>fees prior to the start of the program,b) have access to a timetable at thebeginning of the program,c) be informed of the requirements forprogression to the next term/semester,d) receive in writing, at the beginning ofeach course, a course outline that includes:• learning outcomes• course objectives• list of textbooks and readings/supplementary materials• grading criteria/guidelines• the value for each assignment,project and test• opportunities for Prior LearningAssessment and Recognition• additional information and/or answersto frequently asked questionse) receive in writing information aboutassignments including due dates,the dates of tests and exams and theexpected standard for performanceor quality of assignments,f) receive contact information for eachcourse instructor including <strong>College</strong> roomnumber, <strong>College</strong> phone number, emailaddress and office hours (where applicable),g) receive reasonable notice of any changesto the course such as objectives, gradingsystem, assignments, assignment duedates, change of time/cancellation of aclass, test/exam dates,h) obtain marked assignments and gradesin a timely manner,i) be graded objectively on academicperformance and to be protected byestablished procedures againstprejudice or unreasonable evaluation,j) appeal grades and evaluations,k) have the opportunity to review one’sevaluated assignments, tests, examsand projects,l) withdraw from a course withoutacademic penalty prior to the deadlinedate for Voluntary Withdrawal as definedfor each program,m) receive a quality learning experiencefrom instructors who are knowledgeablein their subject area, and skilled ininstructional techniques.Non-Academic Rights<strong>Students</strong> have the right to:a) express oneself individually or as a group,orally, electronically, and in print; andthe right to publish and distribute viewson campus, free from censorship orreprisal provided that these rights areexercised reasonably and in a mannerconsistent with the values of the<strong>Red</strong> <strong>River</strong> <strong>College</strong> community andCanadian society at large, with dueregard for others and applicable laws,rules, regulations and policies,75
