AMR-411AutoRead® Handheld Device /ProgrammerStandard Model - AR 5501RadioRead Model - AR 5502APPLICATION — METER READING:The Sensus AutoRead® Hand-Held Device [HHD] isprimarily designed to collect and store utility meterreadings with built-in capability for expanded uses. The HHD interfaces to a personal computer [PC]through a communications/charging stand used foruploading pre-programmed meter reading routeinformation. The computer must be equipped withSensus AutoRead® System software. The Model AR-5501 accepts meter reading data enteredmanually on a built-in keypad, or electronically, through TouchRead® System reading guns used forinterrogating encoders. Reading gun options includecable-connected and RF (no cable required) styles. The Model AR-5502 includes all features of the ModelAR-5501, plus it can read Sensus RadioRead® MeterTransceiver Units [MXUs].PROGRAMMING:The AR5500 series HHDs are designed for collectingmeter readings as well as programming RadioReadMXUs, FlexNet SmartPoints, and ICE registers.CONSTRUCTION:The HHD is housed in a weather-resistant, high impact,UV-stabilized plastic. Surface-mounted circuitry in thespecially designed, watertight case allows the HHD tobe used in rugged field conditions over a wide range oftemperatures.ERGONOMIC DESIGN:The HHD’s ergonomic-minded design offers a wellbalanced,easy-to-handle unit. It includes a graphicalliquid crystal display [LCD] for ease of viewing duringoperation. The contrast value of the LCD automaticallyadjusts based on the ambient temperature, but canalso be easily field adjusted to compensate for use invarying lighting conditions. The HHD can be manuallycarried during operation, or function in the optionalHHD carrier harness.BACKLIGHTING:A backlight feature provides illumination to the LCD forconvenience in data entry and ease of reading data inareas with insufficient lighting.S P E C I F I C AT I O N SPRIMARYOPTIONALHand-held electronic meter reading collection and datastorage device for manual, TouchRead System, andRadioRead meter reading.Programmer for Sensus SmartPoints and ICE registersPHYSICAL Case material molded of high impact, UV-stabilizedCHARACTERISTICS plastic. AMR-411FLEXIBLE DATA ENTRY:When used with a Sensus TouchRead AutoGun,the HHD automates the reading process. Readingdata from Sensus and compatible absolute encoderequipped meters is obtained and stored in the HHD.Manual entries can also be made using the keypad, which features elastomeric, tactile response keys.Preprogrammed “high” and “low” range imits, calculated and passed from the utility billing software, can be sent to alert the user of possible reading errors. In addition, the Model AR 5502 provides expandedfeatures for reading and programming SensusRadioRead MXUs.CORDLESS AUTOGUN:Used in conjunction with the AutoRead HHD, thecordless AutoGun provides the ability to performTouchRead readings without the need for cables fromthe AutoGun to the AutoRead HHD. Information isstored in the AutoRead HHD through a bi-directional,low-power RF link.AUTOMATIC, ERROR-FREE DATACOLLECTION:When used with a TouchRead AutoGun, the HHDcollects and stores readings automatically from Sensusor compatible absolute encoders. Regardless of theroute sequence programmed into memory, the HHDsoftware identifies each meter encoder using theencoder’s internal identification number. The softwarethen searches the route program and automaticallystores the meter reading in the correct customeraccount. When the utility’s meter readers hear anaudible alert tone from the HHD, it is alerting them toa special condition or hazard. They need only refer toinstructions on the HHD screen on how to proceed. This process eliminates errors and increases meterreading speed.AUDIBLE VERIFICATION/WARNING:The audible tone confirms completed TouchRead andRadioRead System readings or alerts the user to faultyor out-of-limit readings. Tones can also be programmedwith notes to alert the meter reader to hazardoussituations or to respond to field survey questions.COMMENTS/NOTES:The HHD uses preprogrammed, utility-defined notecodes, or free form notes [using the alpha and numerickeypad].Meter readers can identify accounts requiring specialattention, or they can note unusual conditions andaccount survey information.REPLACEABLE BATTERY:The rechargeable, self-contained Lithium Ion batterypack is field-replaceable to minimize downtime. TheHHD is also equipped with a lithium battery backupto maintain date and time.PRODUCTIVITY MONITORING:The HHD’s built-in clock can record the time and dayof each meter reading. The software can note and storethe type of reading made: manual, automatic, and/ormultiple data entry. These reads provide an overviewof time spent reading the route and special problemsrelated to readings or equipment use.SERVICE AND WARRANTY:No service should be necessary if reasonable care isgiven during normal use. Sensus offers the SensusEquipment Maintenance Program [SEMP] to extendthe protection of HHDs and related equipment beyondthe one [1] year warranty covering materials andworkmanship. Warranty and service policy details areavailable from Sensus representatives and authorizedAMR distributors.TouchRead AutoGun or AutoGun PitProbe can be used with theHHD for electronic reading of meters equipped with TouchReadSystem encoders: AutoGun reading gun and PitProbeextension can be used without a connecting cord. The Sensus 5500 Series HHD provides flexibility for utilitiesneeding a reliable electronic hand-held meter readingand programming device. In addition to accepting meterreadings via its keypad, the HHD also accepts readings fromTouchRead® System and RadioRead® System equippedmeters where those systems are used.Page 2 of 2AUTHORIZED SENSUS DISTRIBUTORP.O.
