<strong>Rail</strong> <strong>Track</strong> <strong>Isolation</strong> <strong>Systems</strong><strong>Trelleborg</strong> Queensland Rubber is a leading supplier oftechnically advanced solutions for rail track isolation.We have developed a <strong>com</strong>prehensive range ofelastomeric-based products to significantly attenuateground-borne vibrations resulting from train passes.In general, structure borne noise isolation is asignificant design issue in densely populated areasadjacent to subways, <strong>com</strong>muter lines and/or light railsystems. We have a broad range of products to providethe required degree of isolation for most applicationsinvolving rail track noise and vibration.Our unique range of products includes :-• Floating Slab <strong>Track</strong> (FST) Bearings• Resilient Bonded Baseplates / <strong>Track</strong> Fasteners• Low Vibration <strong>Track</strong> (LVT) Boots and Pads• Ballast MatIn conjunction with our US-based partner ATP wehave in excess of 30 years experience supplying trackisolation products for the rail industry.Our focus is to supply high quality products withsuperior performance that have been fully testedand verified using our extensive in-house testingcapabilities. The manufacturing sites in Brisbane,Australia, and Wuxi, China, are both certified to theQuality Standard ISO9001.Our expertise includes the design of elastomericbearings for anti-vibration mass-spring systems. Massspringsystems are also installed to acoustically isolateneighbouring structures that are particularly vibrationand noise sensitive such as concert halls and movieproduction studios. We have supplied customizedacoustic bearings to fully isolate numerous structureslocated adjacent to rail systems, including the Theatreson the Bay <strong>com</strong>plex in Singapore and Hong KongMovie City.We are focused on forming partnerships with ourclients to develop cost effective and high performancesolutions for track isolation.


Resilient <strong>Track</strong> FastenersIn partnership with the US-based designer ATP, we area leading supplier of resilient bonded baseplates for railtransit projects. We have developed numerous designsto suit a range of different axle loads. Our proven andreliable systems of track fasteners include:• Egg-type Baseplates• Compression BaseplatesEgg-type Baseplates have a unique design that providesexcellent acoustic characteristics, failsafe long-termperformance and good electrical isolation.The geometry of the top and bottom plates providesa <strong>com</strong>bination of lateral integrity and vertical softness.The top plate floats and the forces are primarilytransmitted in shear rather than in <strong>com</strong>pression,thereby providing linear spring characteristics over thefull operating range.Our range of track fastener are suitable for bridges,viaducts and tunnels, and can be installed on eitherpre-existing slabs, insitu-slabs, pre-cast blocks, steeldecks, or steel plates supported by timber sleepers.Special baseplates for turnouts and guard restrainingtrack locations can also be supplied. Our baseplatesare designed to reduce ground-borne vibrations,reduce impact on supporting structures and reducemaintenance.Compession Baseplates usually provide dual stiffnesscharacteristics. Under low axle loads, such as emptypassenger coaches and freight cars, the baseplateoperates with significant deflection. However, underheavy loads the baseplate is designed to stiffenconsiderably to provide the necessary increasedsupport.


Ballast MatBallast mats are designed to reduceground-borne vibrations, thedegradation of ballast stones and thedamaging effect of impact forces onsupport structures. They are easilyinstalled on rigid support surfacesunder the ballast, such as concretetunnel floors or bridge decks.Fabric-reinforced Natural Rubberis the ideal <strong>com</strong>bination to provideconsistent long-term performance.The Natural Rubber provides superiormechanical and dynamic properties.Flexible fabric reinforcement ensurestrack loads are distributed uniformlyand prevents penetration of ballaststones.Our ballast mats are typically supplied in rollsthat can be simply handled with a forklift.Sections of the rolls are field cut to suit theparticular application. Joints are coveredby an inherent flap extending from the topsurface on one side of the mat, therebyensuring the covering of joints is a simpleand efficient process.Low Vibration <strong>Track</strong> (LVT) Boots and Pads<strong>Trelleborg</strong> Queensland Rubber is a licenced supplierof Low Vibration <strong>Track</strong> (LVT) Boots and Pads. LVT isa non-ballasted track system <strong>com</strong>prising independentrail supports encased in a second pour concrete.The rubber boot isolates the rail support from thesurrounding structure and the micro-cellular pad isdesigned with a certain spring rate to provideeffective attenuation of the vibrations.LVT provides a number of advantages includingaccurate track geometry, exceptional lateral resistanceand a proven record of long term maintenance freeoperation.


Floating Slab <strong>Track</strong> (FST) BearingsFloating Slab <strong>Track</strong>s (FST’s) are a proven mass-springsystem for achieving very high levels of vibrationisolation. The degree of isolation achieved on ourmost recent installations is far superior to almost allother available systems of track form. In particular,FST bearings are suitable for reducing low frequencyground borne vibrations.We have recently supplied FST bearings for theextensive Hong Kong rail system, including :-• KCRC West <strong>Rail</strong>• KCRC East <strong>Rail</strong> Extensions• MTRC Lant<strong>au</strong> and Airport <strong>Rail</strong>way Phase 2Our FST bearings are manufactured using a specialdual <strong>com</strong>pound design to ensure consistent long-termperformance. The bearings are principally NaturalRubber to provide excellent mechanical properties,extended durability, low creep rates and low dynamicto-staticstiffness ratios. In regards to their provenrecord of long-term durability, some elastomericbearings in bridge support applications have beenoperational for in excess of 100 years.We supply custom designed bearings to supportvertical, lateral and longitudinal loads applied to eachspecific Floating Slab <strong>Track</strong> unit. The bearings can bedesigned to support pre-cast and in-situ slab systems.In addition to extensive development trials andrepeated cyclic tests on prototype samples, thebearings are <strong>com</strong>prehensively tested duringmanufacture to ensure consistent <strong>com</strong>pliance with thespecified performance requirements.
