This Act may be cited as the Public Health Act.470f 1974,20 or urn.33 of 1991s. 22,36 of 19953rd Sch.,22 of 19%.Short title.2.41) In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires- l!$rpreta-“communicable disease” means any disease due to aspecific infectious agent or its toxic products, whicharises through transmission of that agent or itsproducts from an infected person or animal to asusceptible person either directly or indirectly,through the agency of an intermediate plant oranimal host, a vector or the inanimate environmentand includes any infectious disease and anyquarantinable disease;“functions” includes duties and powers;“Local Board” means the Local Board of Health inrespect of each parish established under section 5;“Medical Officer” means any medical practitioner inthe employment of the Government or any LocalBoard;“Medical Officer (Health)” means any medical practitionerappointed by the Governor-General tobe a Medical Officer (Health) and shall include theChief Medical Officer and any other MedicalOfficer designated by the Minister to be a MedicalOfficer (Health) for the purposes of this Act;“medical practitioner” means a medical practitionerregistered in accordance with any enactment forthe time being in force in relation to the registrationof medical practitioners;“notifiable disease” means any communicable diseasedeclared by the Minister by order to be a notifiabledisease;me inclusion of this page is authorized by L.N. 96/1998]
