July 9, 2012FOUR IN CUSTODY FOLLOWING ATTEMPTED ROBBERYFour men are in custody following an attempted armed robbery at a FortWalton Beach convenience store.Deputies responded to an armed robbery at the Tom Thumb Food Storelocated at 1605 Florence Avenue at approximately 12:40 a.m. this morning.The clerk stated two masked men entered the store brandishing handgunsand attempted to rob the store. Both suspects fled the scene without anyproperty into a nearby neighborhood. Deputies stopped a vehicle with fouroccupants in the vicinity shortly after the robbery and one of the passengersfled the vehicle. An OCSO K-9 tracked the suspect, Randall Spears, to awooded area on Butler Drive where he was taken into custody withoutincident. Two firearms were also recovered in the area in which the suspectfled. The remaining three passengers were taken into custody after deputieslearned they were also involved in the robbery.Arrested were: 21-year old Randall S. The defendant arrived at the Tom Thumb, remained in the vehicle as two others went inside the store to commit a robbery. Thedefendant fled the scene. A vehicle was stopped near the location of the incident and the above individuals were identified in the vehicle. Thedefendant ran from the vehicle. The defendant was identified as the individual who fled from the vehicle during the traffic stop. Two weaponswere located near the traffic stop were the defendant fled.Post Miranda Rights Advisement, the defendant stated he planned on committing a robbery. The defendant stated both semi-automaticpistols belonged to him and acknowledged one pistol was reported stolen. The defendant stated he gave a juvenile the weapon to commitrobbery. the defendant stated he discarded the weapons while fleeing the scene to avoid detection.Randall Spear violated F.S.S. 812.13(2a) conspiracy to commit robbery with a firearm F.S.S. 812.019(2) dealing in stolen property, F.S.S.893.13 tampering with evidence and F.S.S. furnishing weapon to a minor.
