Two or three times ayear we’ll target an area of our city and have afamily movie night. We find a public place—maybe a grassy knoll in a business park, or we’llrent a community building or apartmentclubhouse. We canvas the area with flyers twoweeks in advance, mainly targeting the kids,inviting people to a free family night with amovie, games, and free food, sponsored by ourchurch. That night we’ll have outside games forthe kids and serve free hot dogs, burgers, andsoda pop, and then start the movie when it getsdark. We give away free minibooks and have ourchurch banners and literature set up for peoplewho are interested. Then we’ll go back to thatarea a couple of months later and do somethingelse to bless them.About . . . We run a program called“The Blessing Basket.” The first year we gave 100 basketswith a full Christmas meal to those in need. Now 12 yearslater this outreach has expanded to several other townsin our county—giving food, gifts, blankets, toiletries, andmore. The whole town gets involved in donating,including the schools, fire and police departments, andother churches. The program has expanded to includeshut-ins and the elderly, and last year more than 1,000families were blessed.About . . . We had the RHEMA Bible ChurchStreet Evangelism Team from Broken Arrow come to our church.They conducted four evangelism training classes and then ledchurch groups into the community to practice and apply whatthey learned. In the 11 years since we’ve founded this church,there has never been such excitement about winning souls forJesus! I’m very excited about the results and would stronglyrecommend this team from RHEMA to any church interested inimproving their ability to evangelize and increase the Kingdomof Jesus Christ! Early in 2008 we purchased a$10 fish tank at Wal-Mart and put it on the platform along withpens and strips of white paper and red paper. Congregationmembers believe God for someone to get saved, write thatperson’s name on a strip of white paper, and put it into the fishtank. Occasionally during services we’ll pray as a congregationfor the names in the tank. When a person gets saved, thecongregation member writesthat name on a red strip ofpaper and puts it in the tank.As more and more peopleget saved, everyone can seeit. This keeps soul winningbefore the whole congregationand helps them keepbelieving together.About . . . We have an inner citychurch in a low income area that used to have gangs and drivebyshootings regularly. We wanted to get kids off the street andget them into church, so we went to schools to ask how wecould help. We started by getting involved with the schoolprograms. Now we run Shining Light Day Care which ministersto about 300 to 350 preschoolers per day, plus we have anafter-school program, and are working with high schoolstudents, getting them into college, etc. When a dog trackopened nearby, we offered a discount to their employees forday care. We don’t have drive-by shootings anymore—peopleknow we’re trying to help kids. The lives of the kids are changing,and their families are coming to church. People used to tell uswe needed to move out of this area, but this is where ourchurch is called to be a help.About . . . Our churchhas a program called “Shieldof David.” When a personcalls us with a need for food,utility payments, and so forth,we ask if we can sendsomeone to their house totalk with them. While we’rethere we can assess theirneed. Then in addition tomeeting that need (we don’tgive them money, but we goshopping with them or sendthem to our food pantry), welook for other needs aroundtheir home—maybe leaky pipes or a broken air conditioner. Ifwe find those, we send a team to fix the problems and we payfor all the repairs. We have a Shield of David fund financed byofferings from the church and donations from other people inthe community.About . . .
