ideas and outreachesALUMNI BLOGg Randy and Vickie (’03, ’04) Lynn say . . .Raise up your own musicians. When we grew frustrated overthe lack of musicians in the church, the Lord directed us to dosomething about it. For one hour on Sunday afternoons, our bandmembers and others give lessons for anyone interested in playingfor praise and worship. In different rooms we have lessons forbass guitar, drums, piano, organ, and guitar. We teach currentsongs as well as hymns. Classes are open to all ages, but we havea lot of kids who come. The lessons have really spurred growth inour praise and worship at the church.g Gary Hayhurst (’76) says . . .Help your members stay informed. We send churchannouncements out every week or so to everyone in the churchwho has e-mail and wants to receive them. This also enables usto remind people about special events right before they happen.First, it’s just another way of announcing things (since noteveryone pays attention during church announcements!), andsecond, it’s another way to touch people’s lives when they’renot in church and remind them that we’re here for them. It’sbeen an effective way of staying in touch and keeping peopleinformed.About . . . Forty minutes beforeSunday morning service we have what we call “Huddle Up” inthe main sanctuary. All the workers from every departmentcome—greeters, children’s workers, ushers, and so forth. If theseministries met by themselves they would be small groups, buttogether we make a crowd and it generates excitement. Westart by “sounding off,” with everyone giving their name andplace of service for that morning. Then I give a quick word ofencouragement, we pray together, and we end by stating thechurch’s mission for the year and cheering. It has pumpedeveryone up, and they are on time to serve. Many come early! It’s been a very positive and unifying thing.About . . .
