The World LeaderIn SpreadersBromma has been proving its leadership in the containerhandlingfield for nearly 30 years. Wherever container shipsgo, there’s a very good chance you’ll see a Bromma spreaderin action. In fact, with more than 4,000 spreaders sold,Bromma has more spreaders in service today than all ourcompetitors combined. Bromma spreaders perform reliably, day after day, year after year, in the most demandingterminals in the world. It’s this kind of performance, proven across a wide geographic landscape and over manyyears, that has made Bromma the world leader in spreaders. What sets Bromma apart from its competitors are not minordifferences in initial purchase price – but a major differencein lifetime value. While one spreader may look similar toanother, there are major differences between the leadingcompanies – in strategic design, manufacturing resources, global reach, and philosophy of customer support.survives. Bromma equipment is built to last in thetoughest environments. It is designed for easy preventivemaintenance, to prevent downtime. Plus, it is equipped todeliver faster fault diagnostics, so you can shorten downtimeevents if they occur.World Class EngineeringBromma engineers focus on the long-term performanceof spreader designs. One way Bromma achieves superiorstructural strength is through strategic engineering tools, such as finite element modeling (FEM). FEM is used toanalyze stress points on the spreader and project the likelyeffect of accumulated stress over time. As customers specifyhigher and higher crane speeds, dynamic stress on thespreader increases. Bromma design studies, includingbuckling, vibration, and stress-related stiffening analyses, enable our engineers to evaluate the likely long-term impactof possible changes in spreader design. At Bromma, you get high-performance equipment thatminimizes costly downtime. Theworld of container handling is arugged one. Only thetoughest equipmentBromma uses sophisticated FEM techniques to study theeffect of different load combinations on the spreaderstructure. One of the important values underlying Bromma designwork is the commitment to build simple spreaders.Designing a better spreader doesn’t necessarily meandesigning a more complicated spreader. Good design alsomeans easy accessibility, ease of maintenance, andinterchangeable, standardized components for a reducedspare parts inventory.2

World Class ManufacturingCrane spreaders are subjected to repetitive, high-impactcollisions day after day. This is why the quality of materialsused, the quality of components selected, and the quality ofmanufacturing techniques employed, are so important whenit comes to ensuring long-term spreader performance.Bromma, for example, pays special attention to the materialswe use – especially premium Swedish steel, selectedbased on its strength, weldability, and formability. Ourmanufacturing plants also contribute to the consistency ofBromma manufacturing. Since major spreader components(main frame, telescopic beams, and gable ends) arejig-built, a high degree of accuracy is ensured. Qualitystability is one goal among many in our commitment toworld-class manufacturing.World Class SupportAt Bromma, we stand behind our products with the mostextensive field service organization in the world, a completeonline spare parts program, and the industry’s most comprehensivespreader training program. Through BrommaUniversity we offer two, three and four-day training events, both on-site and off-site, for your technical and maintenancestaff. Bromma field service engineers can alsoperform annual evaluations of your spreader fleet, as well asperform scheduled preventive maintenance. Bromma hasproven itself over many years. We are a company you candepend on.Bromma’s BGS Spreader ProgramBromma has recently adopted a global spreader design standard,in order to achieve a higher level of uniformity indesign and components, regardless of where a particularBromma spreader is manufactured. Global integrationthrough the new BGS product line also means considerableimprovement to certain spreaders in our line, includingweight reductions, increased lift capacity, and improvedaccess for easier maintenance. Design uniformity alsomeans cost savings for our customers, as product uniformitywill reduce spare parts stocking requirements. Variousnon-standard Bromma spreaders not listed in this catalogare still available, on a custom pricing basis.3

Single-LiftShip-to-ShoreSpreadersBromma single-lift ship-to-shore telescopic spreaders areknown throughout the world for exceptional strength, reliability, and long life. Bromma has sold nearly 4,000telescopic spreaders through the years – most of which havebeen single-lift units. This unmatched record of experienceis why downtime is usually quite low on Bromma spreaders, and why availability rates often exceed 99%.The Bromma SSX40 can single-lift 20' or 40' containers, while the SSX45 can lift 45' containers as well.Bromma spreaders have been designed and built for long, reliable life in higher throughput environments and forservice on high-speed cranes.Bromma ship-to-shore telescopic spreaders are feature-rich.The SCS 2 Spreader Communications System reduces typicalspreader downtime in two ways – first, by preventingdowntime, and then by shortening downtime events whenthey occur. The system prevents downtime throughimprovements in the area of electrical connections (as muchas 35% of spreader downtime is electrical-related), andshortens downtime through faster spreader faultdiagnostics. With SCS 2 you should experience fewer downtimeevents, and when they occur, faster trouble-shootingwill eliminate, in many cases, the time and expense of aspreader change-out.The spreader has the capability to retract to the 19'6"position in the event the spreader becomes jammed in theship’s twenty foot cell. Positioning to the 19'6" position canbe controlled by the operator if appropriate controls are furnishedin the crane cab. All spreaders fulfill the mostdemanding design criteria among DIN, FEM and BritishStandard. Bromma’s TTDS Twin-Twenty Detection System(an excellent feature for single-lift spreaders as well) andmany other structural, mechanical, hydraulic and electricaloptions are available; see your Bromma representativefor details.TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONSSSX40TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS SSX45LIFTING CAPACITYtwistlocks 41 tonnes ±10% eccentric loadingtwistlocks 41 tonnes evenly loadedlifting lugs 4 x 10 tonnes in end beamLIFTING CAPACITYtwistlocks 41 tonnes ±10% eccentric loadingtwistlocks 41 tonnes evenly loadedlifting lugs 4 x 10 tonnes in end beamWEIGHT8,7 tonnesWEIGHT9,6 tonnesTELESCOPIC MOTIONfrom 20' to 40' in 28 secondsTELESCOPIC MOTIONfrom 20' to 45' in approximately 30 secondsGUIDE ARM SPEED180° in 3-5 secondsGUIDE ARM SPEED180° in 3-5 secondsTWISTLOCK ROTATION90° approximately in 1,0 secondsTWISTLOCK ROTATION90° approximately in 1,0 secondsHYDRAULICSsystem pressure 100 barHYDRAULICSsystem pressure 100 barPOWER SUPPLYAND CONSUMPTION400/230 V AC 50 Hz or otherwise as agreed7,5 kWPOWER SUPPLYAND CONSUMPTION400/230 V AC 50 Hz or otherwise as agreed7,5 kWSURFACECONDITIONINGMANUALSWARRANTYsand-blasted SA 2 1 ⁄ 2; two coats of zinc-rich epoxy primerand two coats of acrylic top coatfull service and repair manual suppliedone yearSURFACECONDITIONINGMANUALSWARRANTYsand-blasted SA 2 1 ⁄ 2; two coats of zinc-rich epoxy primerand two coats of acrylic top coatfull service and repair manual suppliedone yearThis specification is subject to alterations without prior notice. This specification is subject to alterations without prior notice.5

Twin-LiftShip-to-ShoreSpreadersTwin-lift ship-to-shore telescopic spreaders have become themost popular products in Bromma’s telescopic spreader line. This is due to the significant improvements in productivitythat twin-lift container handling can make possible at manyterminals. Twin-lift spreaders are extremely versatile. With atwin-lift spreader, the crane operator gains the flexibility tolift a 45' container, a 40' container, a 20' container, or two20' containers – all without changing the spreader. The Bromma STS45 offers a further advantage – the abilityto laterally move two 20' containers while they are suspendedunder the twistlocks. The STS45 allows the crane operatorto move two 20' containers up to 1,6 metres apartunder full load. A major benefit of the STS45 is that alarger percentage of above-deck containers can now betransported in twin-lift mode. The twin-lift ship-to-shore spreader line consists of tworegular twin-lift spreaders and one separating twin-lift. TheSTR40 can twin-lift two 20' containers or a single 40'container. The STR45 can also lift 45' containers. TheSTS45, as mentioned above, is a separating twin-liftspreader, offering major advantages in terms of above-deckcontainer handling versatility.Bromma designed the very first twin-lift spreader, and hasmore twin-lift crane spreaders in service today than all ourcompetitors combined. Maintenance is cost-effective, sinceBromma’s twin-lift does not require a spare parts inventoryseparate from our single-lift spreaders. Maintenance is easy, because access to components is very good. Safety is high, because Bromma’s singular Twin-Twenty Detection Systemreads container gaps, leading to a “no go” signal underunsafe conditions. Bromma twin-lifts are also designed tohandle irregular container loads.Bromma spreaders are feature-rich. Our MPS memorypositioning system, available on the STS45, makes thecrane operator’s task easier, and increases productivity. Theyhave the capability to retract to the 19'6" position in theevent the spreader becomes jammed in the ship’s twentyfoot cell. Positioning to the 19'6" position can be controlledby the operator if appropriate controls are furnished in thecrane cab. All spreaders fulfill the most demanding designcriteria among DIN, FEM and British Standard.Bromma twin-lift ship-to-shore spreaders are the idealchoice for terminals looking for high-productivity containerhandling solutions.TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS STR40/STR45 Twin-Lift SpreaderLIFTING CAPACITYWEIGHTTELESCOPIC MOTIONGUIDE ARM SPEEDTWISTLOCK ROTATIONHYDRAULICSPOWER SUPPLYAND CONSUMPTIONSURFACECONDITIONINGMANUALSWARRANTYtwistlocks 51 tonnes ±10% eccentric loadingtwistlocks 51 tonnes evenly loadedtwistlocks 2 x 32,5 tonnes (2x20' ISO)lifting lugs 4 x 10 tonnes in end beamSTR40: 9,9 tonnes STR45: 11,0 tonnesSTR40: from 20' to 40' in 28 secondsSTR45: from 20' to 45' in 30 seconds180° in 3-5 seconds90° approximately in 1,0 secondssystem pressure 100 bar400/230 V AC 50 Hz or otherwise as agreed7,5 kWsand-blasted SA 2 1 ⁄ 2; two coats of zinc-rich epoxy primerand two coats of acrylic top coatfull service and repair manual suppliedone yearThis specification is subject to alterations without prior notice.7TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS STS45 Separating Twin-LiftLIFTING CAPACITYWEIGHTTELESCOPIC MOTIONGUIDE ARM SPEEDTWISTLOCK ROTATIONHYDRAULICSPOWER SUPPLYAND CONSUMPTIONSURFACECONDITIONINGMANUALSWARRANTYtwistlocks 51 tonnes ±10% eccentric loadingtwistlocks 51 tonnes evenly loadedtwistlocks 2 x 32,5 tonnes (2 x20' ISO)lifting lugs 4 x 10 tonnes in end beam12,7 tonnesfrom 20' to 45' in approximately 30 seconds180° in 3-5 seconds90° approximately in 1,0 secondssystem pressure 100/160 bar400/230 V AC 50 Hz or otherwise as agreed7,5 kWsand-blasted SA 2 1 ⁄ 2; two coats of zinc-rich epoxy primerand two coats of acrylic top coatfull service and repair manual suppliedone yearThis specification is subject to alterations without prior notice.

Single-Lift MobileHarbour CraneSpreadersWherever mobile or jib cranes are found, Brommaspreaders can usually be found there as well. Brommamobile harbour cranes are renowned for their extremereliability. In fact, the first Bromma mobile harbour cranespreader, built way back in 1977, is still in service today. In all, more than 600 Bromma mobile harbour cranes arein service today in terminals throughout the world. Oneconsequence of Bromma’s vast experience in mobile harbourcrane container handling is that many customers havechosen to standardize with Bromma spreaders. This, in turn, has enabled terminal maintenance departments to becomevery familiar with the service characteristics of thesespreaders – another factor in their extremely long life andreliability. Bromma mobile harbour crane spreaders offeryou the security of proven performance. The single-lift mobile harbour crane spreader line consists oftwo primary spreaders. The EH5 can single-lift 20' or 40'containers, while the EH180 can lift 45' containers as well. Both spreaders offer tower and gravity point adjustment,so that unevenly loaded containers can be picked uphorizontally, which is especially important when loading orunloading in the guides of the ship’s cells. A sliding towerassembly allows the center of gravity lifting point to bemoved as needed toward each end of the spreader. Thesespreaders are normally used in conjunction with Bromma’sstandard rotator. Repair and maintenance is simplifiedthrough easy access to each component. The flexibilitydesigned into the telescopic system allows small changes inspreader length when handling distorted containers.Bromma’s six-flipper arm layout, coupled with a hydraulicmotor flipper drive, provides positive damping to allowefficient gathering on to a container even when the spreaderis rotating. There are many available structural, mechanical, hydraulic and electrical options; see your Brommarepresentative for details.Lightweight 40' and 45' mobile harbour crane spreaders arealso available for older cranes with limitations in terms ofallowable spreader weight. Lightweight mobile harbourcrane spreaders allow you to increase your crane’s capacitywithout the expense of structurally upgrading your crane. As such, these spreaders could substantially extend yourcrane’s useful life. For customers presently using fixed-lengthspreaders on their mobile harbour cranes, telescopiclightweights are an excellent upgrade, as they increase bothcontainer handling speed and efficiency.TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS EH5LIFTING CAPACITYWEIGHTGRAVITY POINT ADJ.TELESCOPIC MOTIONGUIDE ARM SPEEDTWISTLOCK ROTATIONHYDRAULICSPOWER SUPPLYAND CONSUMPTIONSURFACECONDITIONINGMANUALSWARRANTYtwistlocks 41 tonnes ±10% eccentric loadingtwistlocks 41 tonnes evenly loadedlifting lugs 4 x 10 tonnes in end beam8,9 tonnes±1,2m in 20 secondsfrom 20' to 40' in approximately 30 seconds180° in 3-5 seconds90° approximately in 1,0 secondssystem pressure 100 bar400/230 V AC 50 Hz or otherwise as agreed12,9 kWsand-blasted SA 2 1 ⁄ 2; two coats of zinc-rich epoxy primerand two coats of acrylic top coatfull service and repair manual suppliedone yearThis specification is subject to alterations without prior notice.TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS EH180LIFTING CAPACITYWEIGHTGRAVITY POINT ADJ.TELESCOPIC MOTIONGUIDE ARM SPEEDTWISTLOCK ROTATIONHYDRAULICSPOWER SUPPLYAND CONSUMPTIONSURFACECONDITIONINGMANUALSWARRANTY35 tonnes ±10% eccentric loadingtwistlocks 40 tonnes evenly loadedlifting lugs 4 x 10 tonnes in end beam9,7 tonnes±1.1m in 20 secondsfrom 20' to 45' in approximately 30 seconds180° in 3-5 seconds90° approximately in 1,0 secondssystem pressure 100 bar400/230 V AC 50 Hz or otherwise as agreed7,5 kWsand-blasted SA 2 1 ⁄ 2; two coats of zinc-rich epoxy primerand two coats of acrylic top coatfull service and repair manual suppliedone yearThis specification is subject to alterations without prior notice.9

Twin-Lift MobileHarbour CraneSpreadersBromma twin-lift mobile harbour crane spreaders offerthe loading and unloading speed of twin-lift spreaders, with the added flexibility to perform single-lift containerhandling as well. The twin-lift mobile harbour crane spreader lineconsists of two primary spreaders. The EH170 extendsfrom 20' to 40', and can single-lift one 20' or 40'container, or twin-lift two 20' containers. The MTR45 cansingle-lift one container in the 40' or 45' position, ortwin-lift two fully loaded 32,5 tonne containers, or twin-lifttwo containers with quite different loads. Both spreaders are capable of highly eccentric gravity pointadjustment, ranging from 1,2 metres on the EH170 to 2,1metres on the MTR45. Both spreaders can also be outfittedwith Bromma’s twin-twenty detection system, which uses acluster of sensors to detect a gap between containers loadedin the ship’s cell. Bromma’s system reads a gap of 1.5 inchesor more, leading to a crane operator “no go” signal underpotentially unsafe conditions.Bromma’s EH170 features a tower and gravity pointadjustment, while the MTR45 features a pole design andgravity point adjustment. Both spreaders can easily handleunevenly loaded containers in the horizontal position. This is especially important when loading or unloading inthe guides of the ship’s cells. A sliding tower assembly allowsthe center of gravity lifting point to be moved, as needed, toward each end of the spreader. This allows the spreader tobe safely rotated without tilting or overloading. When thecontainer is unlocked from the spreader, the gravity pointadjustment returns automatically to the central position. These spreaders are normally used in conjunction withBromma’s standard rotator. The flexibility designed into the telescopic system allowssmall changes in spreader length when handling distortedcontainers. Bromma’s six-flipper arm layout, coupled with ahydraulic motor flipper drive, provides positive damping toallow efficient gathering on to a container even when thespreader is rotating.Simplified Bromma design means fewer mechanicalcomponents, fewer spare parts, and reduced maintenance.Repair and maintenance is simplified through easy access toeach component.TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS EH170LIFTING CAPACITYWEIGHTGRAVITY POINT ADJ.TELESCOPIC MOTIONGUIDE ARM SPEEDTWISTLOCK ROTATIONHYDRAULICSPOWER SUPPLYAND CONSUMPTIONSURFACECONDITIONINGMANUALSWARRANTYtwistlocks 41 tonnes ±10% eccentric loadingtwistlocks 2 x 25 tonnestwistlocks 41 tonnes evenly loadedlifting lugs 4 x 10 tonnes in end beam10,2 tonnes±1.2m in 20 secondsfrom 20' to 40' in approximately 30 seconds180° in 3-5 seconds90° approximately in 1,0 secondssystem pressure 100 bar400/230 V AC 50 Hz or otherwise as agreed15,9 kWsand-blasted SA 2 1 ⁄ 2; two coats of zinc-rich epoxy primerand two coats of acrylic top coatfull service and repair manual suppliedone yearThis specification is subject to alterations without prior notice.TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS MTR45LIFTING CAPACITYWEIGHTGRAVITY POINT ADJ.TELESCOPIC MOTIONGUIDE ARM SPEEDTWISTLOCK ROTATIONHYDRAULICSPOWER SUPPLYAND CONSUMPTIONSURFACECONDITIONINGMANUALSWARRANTYtwistlocks 51 tonnes ±10% eccentric loadingtwistlocks 2 x 32.5 tonnestwistlocks 51 tonnes evenly loadedlifting lugs 4 x 10 tonnes in end beam14,1 tonnes±2,1m in 7 secondsfrom 20' to 45' in approximately 30 seconds180° in 3-5 seconds90° approximately in 1,0 secondssystem pressure 100 bar400/230 V AC 50 Hz or otherwise as agreed15,0 kWsand-blasted SA 2 1 ⁄ 2; two coats of zinc-rich epoxy primerand two coats of acrylic top coatfull service and repair manual suppliedone yearThis specification is subject to alterations without prior notice.11

Single-LiftYard CraneSpreadersBromma yard crane spreaders are designed for use onrubber tyred, rail-mounted yard cranes, or overhead bridgecranes. Today’s yard cranes, with their higher speeds anddegrees of automation, increasingly require heavy-dutyspreaders that can absorb considerable punishment. Thebenefits of a more robust design, a higher grade of materials, and a more rugged construction, are often not visible untila spreader has been in service for several years. Yet, over theyears Bromma yard crane spreaders have proven to offersuperior long-term value to yard crane customers.Bromma’s single-lift yard crane spreader line consists oftwo hydraulic yard crane spreaders and one all-electric yardcrane spreader.Bromma’s hydraulic yard crane spreaders consist of theYSX40 and YSX45 spreaders. The YSX40 extends from20' to 40', and can single-lift 20' or 40' containers. TheYSX45 extends from 20' to 45', and can single-lift 20', 40',or 45' containers. There are many available structural, mechanical, hydraulicand electrical options; see your Bromma representativefor details.Bromma’s YSX40E is an all-electric yard crane spreader thatcan single-lift 20' and 40' containers. It features a simplifieddesign, which means lower service and maintenance costs. There’s no oil. There’s no oil filter. There’s less requirementfor the regular maintenance check-ups required onhydraulic spreaders, so service intervals will be longer. All of this means lower lifecycle costs. The design retains the twin-beam structure, which ensuresease of access and good protection from damage. At thesame time, its narrow gable end ensures the RTG/RMGdriver has good vision for container location. The all-electricspreader has a much lower weight (less than 6 tonnes),which means it can be used on cranes with a lowerlift capacity. Finally, the all-electric yard crane spreader is environmentfriendly, since with it you have no oil spills, no emissions, and no warm-up problems. AttachmentsHSM6 Overheight frame (Speedloader)Bromma’s HSM6 Overheight allows crane operators toquickly and safely handle open-top containers (with cargoextending up to 6 feet above the corner pockets), flatrackswith overheight loads, and pallets with ISO fittings anddimensions. The HSM6 can be directly coupled and uncoupled to themother spreader through automatic spring-loaded latchesin less than 30 seconds, versus the 15 minutes typicallyrequired for manually applied lift gear. In addition, theoverheight can be attached to the spreader by the craneoperator alone, eliminating the need for the assistance ofdockside personnel. Dock workers no longer have to climbcorner posts to attach jury rigs for top tier, above deckflatracks. Nor do they have to climb ladders at groundlevel to disassemble the jury rigs from the corner posts ofchassis-mounted flatracks. The HSM6 consists of the frame and its storage fixture. The Overheight attaches to the host spreader by means offour (4) patented self-latching arms. The HSM6 is a trueslave spreader which copies the expand/retract andlock/unlock features of the host spreader. The HSM6 isvery flexible: it is adaptable for any ship-to-shore, RTG, orspreader-equipped lift truck application.EH3 RotatorBromma’s EH3 rotator is used mainly on mobile and jibcranes where the wire spacing is approximately 2m. For thisreason the rotating device is usually fitted to spreadersequipped with gravity point adjustment and tower connection. This type of spreader ensures that the container canbe adjusted into the horizontal position. The rotating devicecan also be supplied with a hook so that it can handlegeneral cargo, and with the quick-change arrangement, it iseasily connected/disconnected to the spreader.Handling efficiency is dependent on the lifting height andthe distance between the ropes. The EH3 rotator can beconnected to all kinds of jib cranes with rope distancesbetween 1,2 to 2,3 m.The EH3 is equipped with sliprings and a motor forunlimited rotation with a speed of between 1-5 r. p.m.All electrics are well-protected and the hydraulic unit(which comprises the pump, motor, tank, valves and filter)is totally enclosed within the steel structure, ensuringmaximum protection from damage. The EH3 is fabricatedof high quality Swedish steel, giving it a high lift capacitywith a low tare weight of 1,9 - 3,6 tonnes. The structureis designed in accordance with DIN standard 15018.Repair and maintenance is simplified through easy accessto each component.TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONSHSM6 Overheight FrameTECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS EH3 RotatorLIFTING CAPACITYWEIGHTLENGTHHANDLING CAPACITYSURFACECONDITIONINGWARRANTY40 tonnesoverheight: 2,2 tonnefixture: 2,6 tonne20', 30', 40' and 45' containersISO standard fittingssand-blasted SA 2 1 ⁄ 2; two coats of zinc-rich epoxy primerand two coats of acrylic top coatone yearThis specification is subject to alterations without prior notice.LIFTING CAPACITYMAXIMUM TILTWEIGHTROTATION SPEEDROTATIONPOWER SUPPLYAND CONSUMPTIONSURFACECONDITIONINGMANUALSWARRANTY52 to 120 tonnes5°1,9 tonnes EH3/52 SWL 52 tonnes3,6 tonnes EH3/100 SWL 100 tonnes3,6 tonnes EH3/120 SWL 120 tonnesadjustable between 1 to 5 rpmunlimited (fitted with sliprings)400/230 V AC 50 Hz or otherwise as agreed4 kWsand-blasted SA 2 1 ⁄ 2; two coats of zinc-rich epoxy primerand two coats of acrylic top coatfull service and repair manual suppliedone yearThis specification is subject to alterations without prior notice.17

The SCS 2system also prevents fault events, as SCS 2simplifies the spreader. SCS 2 eliminates or minimizesjunction boxes, terminal strips, terminal ends, relays, and DIN rails – areas where wire breakage is common.Conventional wiring is reduced, and what wiringremains is heavy-duty.

TTDS is alsosuitable for use on single-lift spreaders and can be easilyretrofitted onto your existing spreader fleet.19
