Within specific ethnic heritages, 64% of Muslims from the Arab region say they arewhite, while 20% say they are some other or mixed race. By contrast, 85% of Pakistanis and77% of those from other South Asian nations describe their race as Asian.Overall, just 4% of Muslim Americans say they are of Hispanic origin or descent, thoughthis number is 10% among native-born Muslims. This includes 8% among African AmericanMuslims and 11% among others who were born in the U.S.Income and EducationMuslim Americans generally mirror the U.S. public in education and income. Comparedwith the general public, somewhat fewer Muslims have finished high school and considerablyfewer own their home, but just as many have earned college degrees and attended graduateschool. More than one-fifth of U.S. Muslims (22%) currently are enrolled in college classes, withsimilar rates of college enrollment amongforeign-born (22%) and native-born (20%)Education and IncomeMuslims.About a quarter (24%) of MuslimAmericans have a college degree, including10% who have gone on to graduate study.These numbers are similar to the U.S. generalpublic. A somewhat larger proportion ofMuslims have not finished high school (21%)than is true for the public at large (16%).Economically, family income amongMuslim Americans is roughly comparable withthat of the population as a whole. Amongadults nationwide, 44% report householdincomes of $50,000 or more annually, as do41% of Muslim American adults. At thehighest end of the income scale, MuslimAmericans are about as likely to reporthousehold incomes of $100,000 or more as aremembers of the general public (16% forMuslims compared with 17% among thepublic).
