Mama Fairtrade visits <strong>York</strong>Patricia Mutangili’s neighbourscall her Mama Fairtrade becauseshe spreads the messageeverywhere she goes. And she’scoming <strong>to</strong> <strong>York</strong>!Patricia is a tea farmer from theslopes <strong>of</strong> Mount Kenya. She sellsher tea <strong>to</strong> Ndima, which suppliestea used in the Traidcraft range.She’ll be visiting St Michael leBelfrey <strong>Church</strong> on Monday 5thSeptember at 3pm, andexplaining why every cup <strong>of</strong> hertea we drink makes a difference.Patricia said, “It is going <strong>to</strong> bringbread <strong>to</strong> the tables <strong>of</strong> theproducers. It is going <strong>to</strong> makethem educate their children. It isgoing <strong>to</strong> make them moreemployment and they are going<strong>to</strong> elevate their standards <strong>of</strong>living.”Local schools and churches withland also sell tea <strong>to</strong> Ndima. AtThunguri Primary School casualworkers pluck the school’s 2,000bushes, with the money raisedpaying for exam papers andhelping with maintenance.Around 350 children attend theschool which doesn’t haveelectricity, so sometimes lessonsare delayed until the morninglight improves. The school alsohas a special needs class – theonly one in the area.The <strong>Diocese</strong> will be lookingfurther at why what we purchasecan make such a difference, aspart <strong>of</strong> the Year <strong>of</strong> theEnvironment.
