Bearing WitnessOn Saturday 1st October, the eve ofthe Conservative Party Conference,supporters from around the UK willbe joining Christian Aid, Cafod andTearfund in Manchester for a day oflearning, campaigning and worshipon the issues of climate change andglobal poverty.Speakers from around the world willcome together to discuss globalissues with a focus on the damagingeffects of climate change on theworld’s poorest communities. Theywill include former president of theSouth African Council of Chuches,activist and theologian, Prof. TinyikoMaluleke, who will speak on how theglobal church and Christians canlead action on climate change.After the speakers and a specialecumenical service in the AnglicanCathedral, attendees will form aprocession to the conference centre,where the Conservative PartyConference will be taking place, andwill hold a candlelit vigil to pray forthe government not to forget theworld’s poor during its conference.By taking a stand in Manchester onthis day, organisers and supportershope to remind the Conservatives ofDavid Cameron’s promise to be the‘greenest government ever’.
