Jungle Book performed at Parkdale Elementary
Congratulations to the second grade cast and crew of “The Jungle Book,” performed the last week of
March at Parkdale Elementary.
As the story goes, deep in the heart of the Jungle, Mowgli the Man-cub is raised by wolves. When Shere
Khan the tiger decides that Mowgli is no longer welcome in the Jungle, other animals help come to his aid
and teach him new life lessons. With new and larger threats looming from other Jungle creatures, Mowgli
is aided aby a girl named Shanti, who guides him to live in the Man village, but he will always consider the
Jungle his home.
The production was directed by Mrs. Dietsch, Miss Denny, and Mrs. Edholm. Photo/ Mr. Dietsch.
Earth Day observed in activities
Students from the East Aurora Middle School Explorers
Club teamed worked with Mr. Doug Wicks
and the Buildings and Grounds Department to help
weed fl ower beds at the Middle School. This Earth
Day activity showed that team work helps make the
East Aurora Middle School the best it can be. The Explorers
Club is co-advised by Mrs. Barron/Mrs. Bilson and Mrs.
Krull, who noted that students left feeling great pride with
their accomplishment as well as with their school.
At the High School, DECA sponsored “Go Green Week”
April 23-27, including a different “go green” activity/tip
every day to be more mindful of the environment. Activities
included: Monday - Recycle Mania - making sure that
papers and plastics are being recycled; Tuesday - Turn off
the lights day - make sure to turn lights off when leaving a
room, and if possible, pull the shades up and teach without
the lights on to save energy; Wednesday - Use the whiteboard/
chalkboard to save energy; Thursday - Carpool/Ride your bike
Eric Carle Activity Day at Parkdale
The books of Eric Carle (The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The
Very Busy Spider among others) inspired Miss Jenner’s kindergarten
students in a variety of activities.
Station 1- Students built a caterpillar with sight words (to revisit
and review sight words);
Station 2- At the snack station, students
could create edible spiders and caterpillars
to go along with the Eric Carle’s
books; and,
Station 3- Creative Writing allowed
students to create a book title for the
next Eric Carle book. The trick was that
the title had to have the same beginning
sound in each word. For ex: The Mushy
Mushroom or The Lazy Lion.
to school day; Friday: Wear “Go green” t-shirts and drink out of
reusable water bottles.
