PublicationsThe Academia issues a quarterly journal, the EuropeanReview, published by Cambridge University Press, which isdistributed to all members and is also available from CUPon private and institutional subscription. The EuropeanReview includes high quality papers, of an interdisciplinarycharacter. Many editions also include a specific ‘Focus’features consisting of several related articles on a topicof European concern. Abstracts can be viewed online at:http://journals.cambridge.org/journal_europeanreviewThe Academia increasingly uses the web as a main channelfor communication. Hard copy material is produced, includingbulletins mailed out with the European Review, madeavailable online and to members in hard copy on request.An annual Directory is also published, along with theannual report and accounts. Sponsorship and advertising ispossible in all of these channels of communication.Wherever possible, workshops and study groups arepublished as Academia papers, as supplementary orspecial issues of our journal, and in several cases asbooks, including the following:-- The Social Impacts of Virtual Information, recommendationsfrom the Paderborn conference, The Tree Issue15, 2000.-- The need for High Bandwidth Computer Based Networkingin Europe. TheAcademia considers that with a membership of 2500eminent scientists and scholars from many disciplines andcultures, able to comment independently of any nationalor organisational viewpoint, it is well placed to offer adviceon scientific or academic matters to appropriate bodies inEurope.The following are examples of policy advice provided by theAcademia Europaea:-- The Academia was invited by the Conference ofEuropean Science Ministers to advise on researchinto the human genome, at a time when many of theimplications of this type of research, and the scale of thetask, were poorly understood. The Academia created aninternational expert group whose report was presentedto European ministers and helped to clarify some ofthese issues at a high level.-- The Academia was invited by the State Committee ofthe Ukraine for Science and Technology to conduct anevaluation of the quality of science in the Ukraine, andto advise on the reorganisation of the country’s scienceand research.
