All chain and every single component is proofloadedto a level that corresponds to 2 1/2 timesWLL. Individual inspection before delivery from ourfactories ensures high and consistent quality.Chain and components are tested to destruction on arandom sample basis from every production batch.Minimum breaking force = Maximum workingload limit x Design Factor. Full test data isdocumented. The prescribed elongation for GunneboLifting G80 and G100 Alloy chains is minimum 20%.Additionally, finished products are subjected to testing toensure the correct hardness levels. Cyclical loading tests arealso carried out to simulate the fatigue effects that would beexpected over many years of use.Chain and components carry identification marks for fulltraceability back to the steel supplier for raw material analysis.Safety Put to the Test.IndexAlloy Chain & G-Link Couplers. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2hooksSling Swivel (Eye Type), Cradle Grab (Eye Type) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3Sling (Eye Type), Round Sling (RH). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4Foundry (Eye Type), Clevis Grab (Cradle Type), Sling (Clevis Type) . . . . . . . . . 5Sling (Clevis Type), Sling (SK Type). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 6Shortening (Eye Type), Choker, Shortening Clutch, BL Coupler . . . . . . . . . . . . . 7Weld–On Hooks, SK System. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 8SELF-LOCKING hooksBK Self-Locking, OBK Self-Locking. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 9BKL Self-Locking Swivel (Eye Type), Ball Bearing Swivel (Eye Type) . . . . . . . . 10Shank Type, Web Sling (Eye Type), Hoist Replacement (Clevis Type) . . . . . . . 11roller bearing swivelsInsulated Systems . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 12Alloy Master LinksOblong Master Links . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 13Oblong Master Links w/Sub Assemblies . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 14Oblong Master Links w/Engineered Flat, & w/Subassemblies & Engineered Flat 15Closed Master Links w/Half Links, Half Link w/Pin/Lockwasher . . . . . . . . . . . 16Weld-on Lifting Point, Web Round Sling Connector . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 17SA Shackle, Container Lifting Hooks, Clevis Shackle . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 18Spare PartsSpare Parts, I.D. Chain Sling Type Naming CodeBasic chain sling configurations are often described usinga code. Naming conventions have many exceptions andmay vary among manufactures.1. First Letter often designates the number of legs orbranches:S Single leg with one branchD Double leg with two branchesT Triple leg with three branchesQ Quadruple leg sling with four branches2. Second letter normally designates the fitting at thetop of the sling:O Oblong shaped master linkS Sling hookG Grab hookB Basket with oblong master sling3. Third letter or group of letters normally designates thefitting at the bottom of each branch. A few of the manypossibilities are listed below.S Sling hookG Grab hookLK Sliding chokerBK Self LockingF Foundry hookIf A precedes the group of letters, then a device to adjustthe length has been added. Adjusters can be either of twostyles, Type A or Type B. Both are pictured.Example: ADOS describes an Adjustable, Double LegSling with Oblong master link on top and a Sling hook atthe bottom of each leg or branch.SG SOS SOG SOF SOBKSGG SSS SSG ASOS SOLK22WARNINGSEE WARNINGS AND USE LIMITATIONS ON PAGES 26-36

Tips for Chain Sling Assembly1. Single Leg Sling:If the required measurement falls in the middle of a link, the next link is cut.2. Double Leg Sling(when assembling a clevis system sling)Cut chain to length and count the links. You must have an even number of links so hooks hang in thecorrect plane. (Hooks should always point out, as shown in diagram.)3. Triple or Quadruple Leg Sling(when assembling a clevis system sling)Cut chain to length and count the links. You must have an odd number of links so hooks hang in thecorrect plane. (Hooks should always point out, as shown in diagram.) If the measurement falls in themiddle of a link, the next link is cut.4. A metal I.D. Tag must always be attached to a chain sling, showing serial number, size, reach, rated capacityat angle of lift and manufacturer.5. The reach of the sling is the length measured from the load bearing surface of the master link to the loadbearing surface of the hook or lower terminal (as shown in illustration).6. Each sling manufactured shall have a completed certificate of test provided to user.WARNINGSEE WARNINGS AND USE LIMITATIONS ON PAGES 26-3625

INFORM A RIGGER - PASS THE WORDStandard Gunnebo Lifting Working Load Limits(WLL) are based on a 4 design factor. Liftdynamics, duty cycle and hitch type may requirean increased design factor, hence a reduced WLL.Inattention to required design factor can resultin sling overload. Contact Gunnebo JohnsonCorp. Service Department for assistance at(800) 331-5460.Sling WLL depends on sling leg angle. The WLLfor a sling is reduced as the sling leg angle withthe horizontal gets smaller. This fact applies toall multi-leg and basket slings and must not beignored. The following diagram illustrates the effect of slingleg angle on the WLL for a single basket and 2-legsling.• Never ride on sling or load ... Avoid death orinjury.Sling use regulation requires: “All employees shallbe kept clear of loads about to be lifted and ofsuspended loads.” - OSHA 1910.184 (c) (9).General worksite regulations require “No hoisting, lowering, swinging or traveling shall be done whileanyone is on the load or hook assembly.” - OSHA1910.180 (h) (3) (v).Construction worksite regulation stipulates: “Theuse of a crane or derrick to hoist employees on apersonnel platform is prohibited except when theerection, use, and dismantling, of conventionalmeans of reaching the worksite, such as a personnelhoist, ladder, stairway, aerial lift, elevating workplatform or scaffold, would be more hazardousor is not possible because of structural design orworksite conditions.” - OSHA 1926.550 (g) (2).Alloy steel chain slings shall not be used to rigpersonnel platforms.• Never rig a sling to a load improperly ... Avoiddropped loads and sling damage.“Safe operating practices ...” - OSHA 1910.184 (c)“Operating practices ...” - ASME B30.9-1.10.The WLL of a sling with a 30° leg angle is 50%of the WLL for the same sling with a 90° legangle. Inattention to the effect of sling leg anglecan result in sling overload.Chain sling WLL is to be reduced in accordancewith TABLE 5 when chain is rigged over anedge radius (R) less than two (2) x the chain roddiameter (d).Reduced WLL equals chain sling WLL fromidentification tag x reduction factor.• Sling leg angle shall not be less than 30° fromthe horizontal.• Slings shall be shortened with a shorteninghook only and not with knots or bolts or othermakeshift devices.• Sling legs shall not be kinked or twisted.• Sling hooks shall not be point loaded.• Sling hook latch may be mandatory byregulation, safety codes, or insurance.• Slings used in a basket hitch shall have theloads balanced to prevent slipping.• Slings shall be securely attached to their loads.• Slings shall be padded or protected from theedges of their loads when the edge radius isless than .5 of the chain rod diameter (d).
