4.3 Business Relationships with Customers and SuppliersSCHOTT expects from its customers and suppliers that they sharethe above values and principles which SCHOTT has defined for itself in terms <strong>of</strong> its corporate responsibility, and comply with all applicable laws and regulations.4.4 Interaction with AuthoritiesSCHOTT is committed to maintaining a cooperative and open relationship with all competent authorities. This applies also to investigative authorities pursuing violations <strong>of</strong> applicable laws and regulations.In order to ensure that <strong>of</strong>ficial measures in this sense take theircourse in the context <strong>of</strong> applicable laws and regulations while at thesame time protecting the rights <strong>of</strong> the company and its employees,SCHOTT has established general rules <strong>of</strong> proper conduct during <strong>of</strong>ficial measures such as searches, seizures and/or investigations.The exercise <strong>of</strong> the constitutional right to defend oneself correspondsto the rule <strong>of</strong> law as understood by SCHOTT. Exercising the “right toremain silent” is not interpreted as a confession <strong>of</strong> guilt.5. Company Property, Information andConflicts <strong>of</strong> Interest5.1 Official and Personal Use <strong>of</strong> Company PropertySCHOTT has many systems and equipment, such as telephones,copiers, computers, s<strong>of</strong>tware, internet/intranet, machines and othertools, in its <strong>of</strong>fices and factory areas. All employees are obligatedto handle such company equipment with care and for the intendedpurpose. Unless the guidelines applicable in these cases specificallypermit the use for private purposes, the information and communicationssystems may be used only for company purposes and only inthe context <strong>of</strong> the existing corporate guidelines.11
