Junior Boarding & Pastoral CareRiley House for pupils betweenthe ages of 9 and 13 is situatedin its own area on the maincampus with its own studyand recreational areas withfull access to the facilities ofthe whole <strong>School</strong>. All pupilswhether boarding or day aremembers of the House. Pupilsare looked after by a residentHousemaster and Housemistress,two residential tutors and amatron, and a team of tutorswho visit on a regular basis.Riley is divided into four divisions eachof which is looked after by one of thetutorial staff. The divisions compete in ahuge variety of activities and provide theopportunity for all members of the Rileycommunity to take part.Riley is a co-educational environment withseparate accommodation wings for girls andboys. Pupils share small dormitories whichgives them the opportunity to form closefriendships. Pupils come from around theworld, from local primary schools and prepschools, and also international schools.Day pupils are welcome to stay for tea andactivities and may also do their prep at<strong>School</strong>. Flexible collecting times are operateddependent on the activities in which pupilsare involved and parents’ commitments.There is a central common room witha kitchen, games room and study areas.All pupils keep their books in house andchanging and showering facilities are alsolocated there.HealthRiley has a residential matron who is aqualified nurse. There is also access to thecentral Medical Centre and Perth RoyalInfirmary in the case of emergency.FoodRiley pupils have their main meals in thecentrally located dining hall going in a littleearlier than the senior pupils. The following widerange of subjects is taught: Art, Computing,Design Technology, Drama, English, French,Geography, History, Latin, Maths, Music, PE,Personal and Social Development, ReligiousEducation and Science. Courses are generallybased on English Key Stages Two and Three.The aim is to give pupils experience in specialistareas while at the same time ensuring that theyhave an appropriate basis in the core subjectsto move on to further study. Pupils in theJunior House benefit from the facilitiesavailable in the whole <strong>School</strong> and are taughtspecialist subjects by specialist teachers.Classes are organised to take into account bothability and previous experience to ensure thateach pupil moves at his/her appropriate level.Third FormAll pupils in the Third Form enjoy a fullrange of subjects from Art, Biology, Chemistry,Computing, Design & Technology, English,French, Geography, German and Spanish,History, Latin, Mathematics, PE, Physicsand Religious Education. They are given agrounding in the skills necessary to pursuethe subjects in the future should they wish,and an experience which is worthwhile initself. All subjects are taught by specialists.Fourth FormThe two year GCSE course begins in theFourth Form. All pupils study English,Mathematics, at least one Modern Language,the three Sciences, and Computing. In additioneach pupil does History or Geography (andcan do both), plus two other subjects froman extensive choice. The aim is to ensurethat pupils keep their options open, pursuea well-rounded curriculum, and establisha good basis for Sixth Form study.Pupils are supported in their study not onlyby the individual teachers and the Heads ofDepartment but also by an academic tutor whois linked to the House. A system of Merits andDistinctions rewards both individual pieces ofoutstanding work and continuous hard workand achievement.
