Combined Cadet Force, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award & Community ServiceThe opportunities availablein the cadet force, in ourservice scheme and incharities are vital in that theydevelop valuable personalcharacteristics and also anawareness of the needs ofthe community at large whileproviding the opportunityto put something back intosociety. The skills gained aretransferrable to a variety ofdisciplines both inside andoutside <strong>School</strong>.From Fourth Form onwards all pupils havethe opportunity to join the CCF whichtakes place on a Wednesday afternoon.There are three sections, Army, Navy andRoyal Marines (the only school section inScotland) based in the CCF Headquarterswhich includes the indoor small bore riflerange. Cadets participate in a range ofmilitary disciplines, outdoor adventuretraining and in subsequent years take onthe responsibilities of leadership. They takepart in local and national competitions andare supported by local regular units whoprovide high quality training.Those pupils who do not wish to take part inCCF are involved in a service option whichteaches a variety of skills including first aidand camping and later introduces the conceptof service in a variety of contexts.Both CCF and the service option help toprepare pupils for the Duke of Edinburgh’sAward Scheme which is available to all. Manytake the Bronze Award in the Fourth Form andincreasing numbers are taking the Gold Awardin their final year at <strong>School</strong>.The whole <strong>School</strong> undertakes a range ofcharitable initiatives and the CharitiesCommittee co-ordinates these efforts.There is a number of fundraising activitiesconducted within the <strong>School</strong>. Pupils take theinitiative in organising events and choosing thecharities which they wish to support.Some pupils take part in charitable work on aWednesday afternoon which includes helpingin charity shops in Perth and supporting oldermembers of the community in using moderntechnology.www.strathallan.co.uk23
