Paul Carl Mathis II <strong>Scholarship</strong>Established in 1987 in memory of Paul C. Mathis, professor of economics at CMU from 1962 to 1985, for an outst<strong>and</strong>ingstudent in economics.Gilbert A. Maxwell Endowed Award in ArtEstablished in 2010 by the estate of Gilbert A. Maxwell (Class of 1958, 1964) in memory of his parents, George (1938)<strong>and</strong> Irene Maxwell (1931), who met at Central Michigan State College in 1930. Income from this endowment will supportan award for a full-time junior art major to support the tuition <strong>and</strong> housing expenses associated with a national orinternational art study experience.Keith L. Maxwell <strong>Scholarship</strong>Established in 1984 through the estate of Ellen Mercer Clark Maxwell in memory of her husb<strong>and</strong>, Dr. Keith L. Maxwell,for students in the Department of Communication Disorders.Max A. May Endowed <strong>Scholarship</strong> in ChemistryEstablished in 2010 by Norma J. May, in memory of her husb<strong>and</strong> Max A. May (Class of 1970). Income from the endowmentwill support a renewable award for a junior or senior enrolled in the College of Science <strong>and</strong> Technology <strong>and</strong> the Departmentof Chemistry with a minimum 2.5 GPA, with preference given to a student coming from a rural farming community.Jean Mayhew Interdisciplinary Award in Language ArtsProfessor Mayhew, member of the faculty from 1952 to 1981, established this for junior or senior Michigan resident studentsmajoring in the field of language arts or an equivalent program in speech communication <strong>and</strong> dramatic arts basedon an overall 3.0 or higher GPA as selected by Department of Communication <strong>and</strong> Dramatic Arts faculty.Robert E. McCabe Music <strong>Scholarship</strong> in Memory of Robert HohnerEstablished in 2001 by Robert E. McCabe in memory of Robert Hohner, former CMU percussion instructor. Proceeds fromthe endowment will be used to establish a scholarship for an approved <strong>and</strong> active music major whose primary instrumentis percussion, with a minimum 3.5 GPA, <strong>and</strong> demonstrated financial need by university st<strong>and</strong>ards.Robert E. McCabe <strong>Scholarship</strong>Established in 1998 by Robert McCabe (Class of 1946) for undergraduate or graduate students with a minimum 3.2 GPA<strong>and</strong> financial need. First preference will be given to students pursuing a degree in journalism. If no qualified c<strong>and</strong>idate isidentified, then the scholarship shall be awarded to a student pursuing a degree in liberal arts.Diane McCann <strong>Memorial</strong> Endowed <strong>Scholarship</strong>Established in 2002 by Joseph McCann (Class of 1959) in memory of his wife Diane McCann. Proceeds from the endowmentwill be used to establish a renewable scholarship for a sophomore level student or higher with a GPA of 2.8 or higher <strong>and</strong>who is a member of the Central Michigan University Varsity Baseball Team.Walter W. McCarley, Ph.D., <strong>Scholarship</strong>Established in 1986 to provide a scholarship for a student pursuing a teaching career.McDonald Future Science Teachers <strong>Scholarship</strong>Established in 2006 by Jim <strong>and</strong> Jamie McDonald. Income from the endowment will support a renewable scholarship for asophomore, junior, or senior elementary education, pre-service teacher with a major or minor in science, biology, physics,or any of the hard sciences with a minimum 3.5 GPA.Gene <strong>and</strong> Melissa McKay Endowed <strong>Scholarship</strong>Established in 2004 by Gene (Class of 1982) <strong>and</strong> Melissa McKay. Gene is a current CMU Development Board member.Earnings from this endowment will be used to support a renewable scholarship for entering freshmen or transfer studentswith demonstrated financial need, pursuing a degree in the College of Business Administration <strong>and</strong> who have a GPA of 3.0or higher.Edward E. McKenna <strong>Academic</strong> Excellence AwardEdward E. McKenna served as a faculty member in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, <strong>and</strong> Social Work from1969 to 1992. The scholarship is to be awarded annually to a student or students whose research demonstrates exemplaryachievement in sociological research methods. Competition for the scholarship will be held by the sociology departmenteach spring with an application deadline of March 15.Floyd H. McKibben <strong>and</strong> Olive Allen McKibben <strong>Scholarship</strong>sMrs. McKibben bequeathed two scholarship funds in memory of her husb<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> herself for a worthy student. Both Mr.<strong>and</strong> Mrs. McKibben graduated from CMU <strong>and</strong> were well-known educators in Gratiot County.Jane McNamara Physical Education AwardEstablished in 2008 by the estate of Jane McNamara, emerita faculty. Income from this endowment will be used to supporta renewable scholarship for a student admitted to the physical education <strong>and</strong> sport program in The Herbert H. <strong>and</strong>Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions. Recipient must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
