FROM LOVE AND LOGICKeeping it SimpleDo great parents use a large variety of good parentingskills? Not typically!Great parents don't overwhelm themselves by trying touse every trick in the book. Instead, they rely on asmall number of skills yet apply them with consistency. If you're feeling overwhelmed by your kids, could it bethat you're trying too hard to do too many things?Might it be time to get back to the bare basics? What are these "bare basics"? Listed below are thetop three I've observed from my experience with thousandsof truly great parents and educators:They demonstrate unconditional warmth and love.Kids feel this magical type of love when their parentsspend plenty of time with them, when theirparents focus on their strengths, and when theirparents display empathy instead of anger or sarcasmwhen things go wrong.Their "yes" is always "yes" and their "no" is always"no."Great parents are extremely careful to set only thelimits they know they can enforce. They rememberthis important rule for setting limits:Never tell a stubborn child what to do.Instead, describe what you will do or allow.Would you like your kids to believe that every wordyou say is important? They allow their kids to experience the logical andnatural consequences of their decisions. IIsn't it hard to watch our kids struggle with the consequencesof their mistakes? While it breaks ourhearts at times, allowing them to learn in this waygives them a tremendous advantage as they grow. They develop respect, responsibility, and a goodgrasp of good old-fashioned common sense. Thekey, of course, is to display empathy rather thananger. If you ever find this difficult, listen to ouraudio: Keeping Cool When Parenting Heats Up.Raising great kids really can be a joy when we rememberthat we don't have to overcomplicate parentingwith too many skills and too much theory. Keep it simpleand enjoy your kids. Thanks for reading!Dr. Charles FayMost ImprovedKindergartenEthan CochraneFirst Grade McKenna Cochrane Landon WartaSecond GradeTayla CoxThird GradePreston HastingsFourth GradeNathan FloresFifth GradeGia DewhurstSixth GradeRuben SantosAcademic Excellence in SpellingKindergartenLexi SchoelFirst GradeBrody CogginsSecond GradeMadoxx HuffmasterThird GradeAbbie TiceFourth GradeBridget CogginsFifth GradeSarah McLeanSixth GradeZachary RodriguezAcademic Excellence in PenmanshipKindergartenAllison ByrneFirst Grade Isa McCleskey Desirae SealeSecond Grade Lauren Betancourt Madoxx HuffmasterTrevor Reilly Dallas SorensenThird Grade Emma Cook Madelyn SavageFourth GradeShaye DarwazehFifth GradeMakenzie BlankenshipSixth GradeIsaac SmithPerfect AttendanceKindergarten Brooke BreithauptFirst GradeIsa McCleskeyThird Grade Abraham DanielFifth Grade Anna Davis Sarah McLeanPaul-Thomas O’Brien David WicklineSixth Grade Brenna Briscoe Ruben Santos Jeremiah Savage
