Seniors Complete University-Level ProjectsThe senior project at Faith Christian HighSchool is a requirement for graduationand it epitomizes, in many ways, the purposeand mission statement of the school; To provide a Christ-centered, Biblebasedcurriculum with an emphasis onexcellence in moral character, academicachievement, emotional, social & physicaldevelopment and service to others.Students are challenged to select a controversialtopic that generates strong opposingviewpoints, thoroughly research thetopic and create a 10-30 page universitylevelresearch paper and a 12-18 minutepersuasive presentation with multi-mediavisuals. Presentations are made to studentpeers and include a Christian perspective, the impact on society, a questionand answer session and recommendedactions toward resolution of the issue. The top five are selected by an adultpanel and are presented to the communityin an open forum before a panel of judgescomprised of local business leaders, ministers, educators and parents. This yearour panel included; Roberta Dunham(FCHS Math Teacher), JeanneHendricks (Vice Principal, Butte VistaSchool), Shannon Russ (DevelopmentDirector, A Woman‟s Friend), BrentKall (Youth Pastor, Hope Point NazareneChurch), and Dr. Richard Maddalena(FCS School Board Member).1st Place - $1502nd Place - $100Jaskaran KhelaBullyingJoo Hyun LeeNorth and SouthKorea“Time forReunification?”3rd Place - $75Cameron RipleyAmerica’s MilitaryPresence Throughoutthe World“Should America bethe Police of theWorld?”Honorable Mention - $50Honorable Mention - $50Chad ChappleEmbryonic StemCell Research“Medical Murder orthe Research of theFuture?”AlternateLindsay BarnettSex Trafficking“Modern DaySlavery”ChristopherHarmonAbortion vs. Adoption

Fremont-Rideout Teen Leadership CouncilNewspaper Recycling Fundraiser for ERIf you have spent any time waiting fortreatment at the Rideout Hospital EmergencyRoom, you know first-hand, theneed for expansion. Our community hasgrown at break-neck speed and ouremergency room is no longer equippedto handle the demands. You can help with this vital need in avery painless way. The Fremont-Rideout Teen Leadership Council isconducting a fundraising effort by recyclingnewspapers. Our FCHS FRTLmembers have set a dumpster on thesecondary campus that will be availablefor your use throughout the summer. Please bring your newspapersand help ourcommunity and ourplanet. Thanks for Making a DifferenceClosing in on the Annual Fund NeedAs you know, these economic times have not only had nationaland global implications, but closer to home, many inour FCS family have not been unscathed by the downturn, and the ripple effect has had an impact on Faith Christian aswell. Several FC families have faced significant employmentchallenges, some with percentage salary/wage cuts and furloughsand others who have even lost jobs. These circumstances have increased the number qualifying fortuition assistance, some have moved from the area for employment and others are withoutwork altogether. Lower enrollment and decreased tuition income have increasedthe challenge of maintaining the same great level of programs and staffing towhich we have grown accustom. As the school board communicated earlier this year, we were projecting a potential$60,000 annual fund deficit by June 30 based on the above factors. Over the last fewmonths many of you have responded generously to the need and $34,000 has beenreceived toward bridging the annual fund gap. Another blessing is that our fundraisingevents are projected now to bring in $12,000 more than was originallybudget…which brings our annual fund need down to $14,000.We thank the Lord for each of you, your generosity, faithful prayers and support thatmake quality Christian school education available for our young people. We are confidentthat God will provide just what is needed to maintain this needed ministry ofChristian education for our community. If you are able, please consider a year-end gift by June 30, 2011 to help us finish bridgingthis annual fund gap.As always, we thank God for His provision and you foryour prayers and support.

They are home, safe and sound, but it was not aneasy mission! An ill wind was blowing in Mexicothis year and brought with it a virus that affectedover 300 people in the main camp duringthe week our students and advisors were there. Some of our team were affected. In spite of the challenge, they managed to carryout the will of God for the people of Mexico. Itwas in His power and strength that they were able to serve and minister to the childrenand others in San Luis Rio Colorado. Henry Herrera reports that there was agreat time of ministry during the week.Mr. Herrera prayed for God to present the group with a new experience on thistrip, something out of the ordinary, and God obliged that request. The team usuallytravels from the base camp to surrounding areas each day, to minister to the peopleand provide practical helps. This year a request by Mexican immigration personnelto inspect papers at the base camp proved empty and when the immigration personneldid not show up, our team was able to minister to the people in the village at thecamp.Street evangelism in a local park brought a team of students and parent, Jesse Villasenor, face to face with a self professed warlock. This young man claimed to bea witch all of his life and told our team that his mother was also a witch. Our missionaryteams had ministered to him on three prior occasions and he wanted nothingto do with God. High school senior, Chad Chapple, with the translation helpof Mr. Villasenor, shared his testimony with the man and the Holy Spirit won himover. He received Christ as his savior and assured student, Kessie Endsley, that ifthe students returned next year, they would find him reading the Bible and preachingthe Word. He had devoted his life to Satan up to this point but would devotethe rest of his life to Jesus.Another group of students discovered that the day they were speaking with amother and daughter about Jesus, was the 30th anniversary of the Spiritual birth ofboth women. They were saved during one of the first missionary visits by a groupfrom Azusa Pacific University. Our team returned later that day to present thewomen with birthday cakes and sang happy birthday to them. The daughter toldMr. Herrera that the students would never know how much this little celebrationmeant to her mother. It is typical, at the end of the week, that our students choose to leave their clothes, hats, sunglasses, and soccer balls with the children of Mexico. This year senior,Matthew Priddy left his guitar at a church, to replace their broken instrument. We are proud of our student missionaries and the adults who served with them andwe are thankful to have them home, safe.“How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, whoproclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation…” Isaiah 52:7

If I were to describe Billy & Tiffany(Brown) Wilson in a few words, I wouldsay they are a young, fresh, talented, dynamicduo. Their Facebook page is ahappy place filled with examples of greatdesign, inspirational quotes, personaltreasures, tributes to their clients and honestpassion for their work, God, peopleand each other.Billy‟s childhood love of comic bookswas just a hint of the creative genius hewould display as an adult. That artisticgifting, paired with Tiffany‟s eye forcolor and design and her creative writingskills are the perfect combination for theirdesign business, web site, and blog. Togetherthey have crafted a powerhouse ofart, business, and community. For the past ten years, Billy worked fulltimeat Sam‟s Club in Yuba City andused his degree in Communication Designfrom CSUC to build the design businessin his “spare time” at home. Tiffany,a 2002 graduate of Faith ChristianHigh School who received formal educationin Psychology & Creative Writingfrom Yuba College, helped with the businessat home while raising their threechildren. In April of 2011 Billy resigned fromSam‟s Club and they began the transitionfrom part-time home business to full-timedesign. Their newly remodeled studio ishoused in an historic building owned byEric Jens (FCHS 1990 graduate) that alsohouses his business, Square One Design& Drafting. In the early 1900s, the buildingwas the only print shop in Yuba City.Billy & Tiffany have taken a leap of faithin releasing the security of a ten year careerto embrace the uncertainty of a newbusiness in today‟s economy, but theytrust God and the talent and strong workethic he has given them. The words ofFrances J. Roberts, in his book, “On theHighroad of Surrender” seem to havebeen written for the Wilsons; “...It is notfor the fearful, this walk of faith-it is forthe courageous…”Billy & Tiffany Wilson just stepped intotheir divine destiny. Stand back and watchthem “Wow!” you because they aredefinitely, Different by Design!Stop by the new studio at 546-B YoloStreet in Yuba City to engage the Wilsonsin a fresh, new print design for yourbusiness or personal needs. Dad’s Corner“...the glory of children aretheir Fathers...” Proverbs 17:6By: Bill HannoldDads, one of the most challenging emotional stresses our children face is “peer pressure.”Sixth grade seems to be the age level when peer relationships seem to take on a newdimension. Between the ages of eleven and thirteen, with the increasing impact ofpuberty, we are likely to see many changes. Conversations are no longer limited to sports, but more often revolve around“who likes who.” The importance of dress takes on a whole new dimension… Frequently, “group” opinions prevail… A unique “vocabulary” is mastered for use at the right times… Moms & Dads are encouraged to learn what to do and what “not to do” to ovoidembarrassment. There also seems to be a tendency toward comparing themselves with one another. In order to build-up oneself it is too easy to engage in “put-downs”,thereby gaining peer acceptance.“...they, comparing themselves among themselves are not wise.”(II Cor. 10:12)Dads, these are challenging years for our children, we must prepare them inadvance with Godly counsel and discipline and then remain alert to conversationsand body language which can reveal areas of need. We must do all wecan to maintain communications with our sons and daughters to assist themthrough the emotional challenges of peer pressure.“Lord, please help me to listen carefully and respond with your wisdom toencourage my children through the challenging years of adolescence. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”Dad’s Corner is an on-going ministry to fathers. Welcome HomeA wise woman builds her home… Proverbs 14:1By: Nita FochsPeace & Great Food-They’re What’s for Dinner“What’s for dinner Mom?” is one of the most exasperating questions a busy mother canreceive on any given week night; not because preparing dinner is a burden, but becausewe have not planned in advance and therefore do not have an answer. It is time formothers everywhere to stand up, take control of the dinner dilemma, and set ourselvesfree! If failure to plan is the problem, then let‟s plan. In less than 30 minutes we can plan anentire week of meals and make a grocery list. Choose a day of the week for this task (Ilike Wednesdays because I shop on Saturday mornings and that allows me two flexdays for those unexpected changes in my schedule.) Take a quick visual inventory ofyour pantry, refrigerator and freezer. Use your recipe card file, cookbooks and onlinerecipe sites to list menus for each day of the week. Include recipes you know your familylikes and ones that will use the ingredients you have on hand. Now make a list of theingredients you need from the grocery store and you are ready to shop!At the grocery store, buy only the ingredients you need for the meals you have plannedfor the coming week. This will prevent you from buying more produce than you canuse and throwing it out at the end of the week because it sprouted a goatee in the vegetabledrawer. Buying only the ingredients you need for the main dishes and side dishesyou planned will save you money too.Post your menu in the kitchen for the whole family to view. Don‟t forget to factor inthose nights you plan dinner out and the evenings at the ball park where you will dinefrom the concession stand. Better yet, plan ahead and take you own dinner to the park, picnic style. You will be the envy of those around you who are eating nachos and rubberyhotdogs.Have your children help you inventory the pantry, choose menu recipes and preparedinners. This can be a fun, family activity and it encourages kids to talk about their daywhile they work with you in the kitchen.Meals don‟t have to be drudgery. They can be fun, worry free and even healthier whenyou plan ahead and eat meals you prepare at home. Share recipes with friends and familymembers and check out the myriad web sites for fresh ideas. Try these favorites ofmine; www.allrecipes.com www.foodnetwork.com or link to Leanne Ely aka the DinnerDiva from the Flylady web site, www.flylady.net .With a weekly menu plan and a fully stocked pantry & refrigerator, you will be stressfree and ready with an answer to that universal question: “What‟s for dinner Mom?”Welcome Home is a ministry to busy mothers who need encouragement to become theProverbs 31 women God intends for each of us to be.

More Than Just A Pretty FaceIt is true that you will find a lot ofpretty faces, and handsome ones too, inthe Faith Christian Jr. High and HighSchool annual yearbook, but that is notall you will find. The publication documentsa year in the lives of students. Ittells the story of a family of believers, their hard work, their laughter, theirlove for each other, their outreach toothers and their zest for life. It is achronicle of life; moments in time, capturedfor ever; images, sounds, fragrancesand emotions bound in a halfinch thick treasure. How many times have you pulled theyearbook off the shelf, blown the dustoff the top, and cracked it open to findthe face of that person you just saw intown...the one whose name you can‟tremember? How many times were youdistracted by the handwritten sentimentsof friends from years gone byand smiled as you read and remembered? It is a ritual that everyoneshould have the opportunity to experience. That experience is made possible by thestudent staff that spends all year planning, formatting, photographing, editing, selling ads, proofing copy and writingtext. In doing this, our students areexposed to the business of journalismand publishing, photography and marketing. The yearbook is not just anheirloom, it is a learning experience. The annual budget for the 2011 yearbookproduction was $13,500. Thatcost provided us with the software program, professional services of the HerffJones company, and 125 copies of thefinished product. Sales at $50 eachdoes not cover half of the cost of production.Advertising sales help, but donot satisfy the balance of the cost.To continue to produce the yearbookand keep the cost to students at a reasonablelevel, we must find ways tosubsidize the expense. If you are a business owner and wouldlike to purchase advertising in the 2011-2012 Faith Christian Annual Yearbook,or an individual who would like tomake a contribution to help subsidizethe cost of producing the publication, please contact our business office at(530) 674-5474 or complete and mailthe form below.Thank you for helping to keep this traditionand blessing alive for generationsto come.Faith Christian Jr. High & High School Yearbook 2011-12Name: ________________________________________Business: ________________________________________Address: ________________________________________________________________________________Phone: ________________________________________ Enclosed is my donation of $_______________ for your 2011-2012 yearbook.
