<strong>MIDDLE</strong> <strong>COLLEGE</strong> <strong>News</strong>Middle <strong>College</strong> can be a little bit scary in the firstfew days. New teachers, new rooms, lockers, timetables,uniform, diaries, ……. but we’ve managed to make it in to thesecond week and we’re finally getting into the groove.Year 6/7 have almost completed the first round of literacytesting for the year. As one of only six schools undertakingthis pilot program we are excited to be looking at a secondyear of data and the great improvements our students aremaking already. The students are also gearing up for gettingtheir Bunsen Burner licences in Science next week. Soundslike fun.Year 8 is starting to prepare for camp later in the term andvery much looking forward to that.The courtyard outside our classrooms is almost finished,just the roof to go on and then we can get out there andenjoy the space.Year 9 have started the year making the most of the newbuilding for many of their classes. On Tuesday morning theygave their election speeches for the Middle <strong>College</strong> Captainand House Captain positions, and it was great to see so manyof our students willing to step up and have a go.Year 8 and Year 9 students have had their first sessionfor the new Duke of Ed program and are already showingsome enthusiasm towa rds the opportunities to learn newskills and contribute to the local community. Lookingforward to more great things to come from tha t (stay tuned).Our first Middle <strong>College</strong> Assembly was a chance torecognise some people who are setting the bar already incaring for others and serving around the <strong>College</strong> with someawards. To celebrate the summer holiday birthdays we hada big cake. It allows us tooffer extra pastoral support to small groups of students at noextra cost to the <strong>College</strong>. Our Middle <strong>College</strong> teachers havebeen very supportive in agreeing to a llow students fromtheir classes to be involved during some class time (sothanks to those people). The course will be Mondays11.10am—12.10pm and will involve 8 boys from Yr 8for this Term.Middle <strong>College</strong> PlaygroundDue to the large number of Middle <strong>College</strong> students (around150) and some boisterous behaviour, we will now be runninga roster for which year levels can play on the Middle <strong>College</strong>playground ensuring students are safe in this area.VaccinationsSchool based Vaccinations will take place on Monday 22ndFebruary and Monday 13th September for Year 8’s only.Middle<strong>College</strong><strong>News</strong>4
