MUSIC NewsI will try to keep you abreast of musical activities around theWide Bay area too. On Friday 29 th Ja nuary my family and Iattended a great jazz gig at the Boat Club, the jazz club waslucky to have 2 pe rformers; a jazz quartet and, more unusuallynowadays, a big band. The big band involved studentsfrom Urangan State High School and eventually I would liketo see some of our students involved in community musicmaking. The big band played some all‐time classics such as‘In The Mood’ and ‘Rock around the Clock’– keep your eyespeeled for the next one which is usually at the end of themonth, I’ll mention it when I get the information.Hello to you all and may I start off by saying how excited Iam about teaching your children music. If your son/daughteris in Years 9 – 12 and have not taken music as an electivethey are more tha n welcome to come along to the musicalactivities and excursions that will be available throughoutthe year.If students have a desire to start off a musical activity pleaseencourage them to see me and I am more than happy tohelp to organise them, find suitable music, and organiseperformance opportunities.Already I will be starting off a Middle College vocal groupsinging Abba’s ‘Dancing Queen’ on Wednesdays 11.00 –11.40 and on T hursdays at the same time a Middle Collegeinstrumental g roup. Junior vocal group will still continue onTuesdays 1.00 – 1.30.I have had enquiries regarding private instrumental lessons –to this end I am meeting instrumenta l teachers from aroundthe region and gauging which ones I feel confident inrecommending. This may take a little while, so if you wouldlike your child to start soon please let me know and I’ll try toorganise lessons soon.And finally one for the rock guita rists,Q.
