Jack Edge ~ BURLINGTON COUNTY POST TOWNS: PART 2BIRMINGHAM POST OFFICE ~ Established February 11, 1868Birmingham is a small village located one and one-half miles west of Pemberton on thenorth branch of Rancocas Creek. It is at the extreme western part of Pemberton Township.Formerly the village was the site of at least two sawmills very early in its history.The town lay quite near the intersection of the<strong>New</strong> <strong>Jersey</strong> Southern Railroad and the UnionTransportation Company Line going north towards<strong>New</strong> Egypt and beyond. A large hotel, known asthe Birmingham Inn, hosted travelers on the railroadfor many years.Today, Birmingham lies hidden, some onehalfmile off Route 38 between Mount Holly andPemberton. A quiet little place, just far enoughfrom the highways and strip malls to retain itsidentity.
