1) Curriculum Chair Structure (cont’d)<br />
(c) Curriculum Chairs will be assigned system-wide<br />
according to the following generating formula:<br />
N = Total number of Curriculum Chairs<br />
R = Revenue from the Ministry: R = F (.009E) where<br />
F = MOE Funding/Chair<br />
E = System Enrolment<br />
a = Allowance as per Collective Agreement<br />
(d) Additional Curriculum Chairs will be assigned to split the<br />
umbrella departments and will be assigned in priority<br />
order from largest to smallest, based on sections. The<br />
splits will be as follows:<br />
a. English, French and International Languages<br />
English French and International<br />
Languages<br />
b. Canadian and World Studies and Social Studies<br />
Canadian and<br />
Social Sciences<br />
World Studies<br />
c. Business, Computers and Technological Studies<br />
Business and<br />
Computers<br />
N = R ÷ a<br />

d. Guidance and Co-operative Education<br />

(e) The model will be reviewed when new schools are<br />
opened to ensure funding within the envelope and when<br />
all secondary schools have achieved a complement as<br />
defined by the splits identified in number (d).<br />
(f) The model will be reviewed by mutual <strong>agreement</strong> of the<br />
Board and the Unit at any time.<br />

2) Acting Curriculum Chairs<br />
In the event that a qualified person is not available or staff<br />
complement will not permit the addition of a qualified staff<br />
member, a teacher may be appointed as “Acting” for a period of<br />
not more than one (1) year.<br />
3) Interim Curriculum Chair<br />
In the event that a teacher, receiving a responsibility allowance<br />
according to the terms of this Collective Agreement is unable to<br />
fulfill the responsibilities assigned to that position due to one or<br />
more of a number of circumstances (i.e. illness, accident,<br />
approved leave including sabbatical, deferred salary leave, LTD,<br />
secondment, re-assignment, etc) a teacher shall be appointed as<br />
“interim” for the term of the leave.<br />
4) Selection Committee<br />
The Selection Committee for Curriculum Chairs shall be<br />
comprised of:<br />
1. the Principal of the school;<br />
2. the Family of Schools Superintendent of Education or<br />
designate;<br />
3. a third person familiar with the area under discussion,<br />
mutually acceptable to the Superintendent and the<br />
school Principal;<br />
4. the term of a Curriculum Chair will be for three (3) years<br />
and renewable on the basis of an annual review in the<br />
first year of the term, and at least one other review prior<br />
to the end of the term.<br />
5) Minimum Courses to be Taught by Curriculum Chair<br />
Curriculum Chairs must teach a minimum of two (2) courses<br />
within the department for which they are appointed.
