November 16, 2005<strong>Expanded</strong> <strong>IC</strong> <strong>Tag</strong> <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> <strong>Service</strong> <strong>Developed</strong>- New service alerts drivers to presence of children in vicinity -<strong>NTT</strong> DATA CorporationNissan Motor Co., Ltd.its communications Inc.TRENDY CorporationToky u Security Co., Ltd.TOKYO (Nov . 16, 2005) -- <strong>NTT</strong> DATA Corporation, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., itscommunications Inc., Toky u Security Co., Ltd., and TRENDY Corporation todayannounced that they hav e dev eloped an expanded <strong>IC</strong> tag i-saf ety ® Serv ice that isexpected to help reduce traf f ic accidents inv olv ing children, in addition to help protectthem f rom crime.The expanded serv ice, which is still in the experimental stage, alerts driv ers to thepresence of children in the v icinity thanks to a v oice-recording f rom an electronicinf ormation dev ice in the car that warns: "<strong>Child</strong>ren nearby . Please be caref ul." Signalsf rom the child's <strong>IC</strong> tag and the driv er's <strong>IC</strong> tag are picked up by "lookout spots" on thestreet, such as electricity poles and schooly ard gates, which are af f ixed with receiv ersto pick up such signals. The inf ormation is then transmitted back to the car'sinf ormation dev ice, triggering the v oice-recording. The new sy stem is expected to beespecially usef ul f or driv ers in residential city areas where v isibility is low due to blindintersections caused by hills, house walls, etc.The expanded i-saf ety Serv ice will be tested in a two-square kilometer area in Aoba-ku,Yokohama City f rom this December until March next y ear.i-saf ety is the name f or <strong>NTT</strong> <strong>Data</strong>'s ef f orts to establish a saf e, secure communityenv ironment using IT. The other serv ices of the original i-saf ety Serv ice weredev eloped by <strong>NTT</strong> DATA, its communications, Toky u Security and TRENDY. The otherserv ices, which are still in the experimental phase as well, are as f ollows:1. On-call serviceA child can call f or help by pushing an alarm button on their <strong>IC</strong> tag. This trigger ane-mail to the cellular phone or PC of the child's designated guardian notif y ing them ofthe child's whereabouts and instructing them to go to the child's rescue. In the


meantime, the guardian can call police or other authorities f or help.2. Notification of arrival or departure of a childWhen a child wearing the <strong>IC</strong> tag passes "lookout spots" on the street, the child'sdesignated guardian is automatically notif ied v ia e-mail on his/her cellular phone or PC.3. Location searchA guardian can ascertain the location of a child carry ing an <strong>IC</strong> tag using the browsef unction of the Internet or cellular phone.
