Focus Group Discussion Guide <strong>for</strong> Programme Implementers/<br />

Suggested number of participants: 7- 10<br />

Introduction<br />

Introduce yourself/ves. Share reason <strong>for</strong> holding the FGD: “We would like to get a<br />

better understanding of how the <strong>Etafeni</strong> project (give referring name known by<br />

beneficiaries) has influenced the lives of young people by helping you with skills and<br />

knowledge to reduce your risk and vulnerability; in your community”.<br />

Get verbal consent and assure participants that in<strong>for</strong>mation shared shall be treated as<br />

confidential, unless they state otherwise. Continue to ask the following questions.<br />

Programme Overview: inception, implementation, finance, M&E,<br />

reach, beneficiaries<br />

a. How did the <strong>Fit</strong> For Life, <strong>Fit</strong> <strong>for</strong> Work Programme start? Why was it started?<br />

How were priorities identified? How did culture, socio-economic status,<br />

gender dynamics, risk factors, and other environmental factors influence<br />

programme start-up? What needs did it intend to meet?<br />

b. Briefly describe what the <strong>Fit</strong> For Life, <strong>Fit</strong> <strong>for</strong> Work Programme is about,<br />

including its purpose, objectives, target beneficiaries etc and its structure of<br />

work<br />

c. What documents do you refer to guide the implementation of the<br />

programme, e.g. workplan, etc (request sample copies)? How are your<br />

activities, processes documented?<br />

d. Who was involved during programme development? Community?<br />

Development partners?<br />

e. Who is now involved in the implementation of the programme? How are<br />

they involved?<br />

f. How do beneficiaries access services of the programme? Outreach plan?<br />

Extent of reach?
