Investments in Uni - Fibre <strong>Co</strong>., <strong>Ltd</strong>., <strong>Union</strong> Business Management <strong>Co</strong>., <strong>Ltd</strong>. and <strong>Union</strong> Spinning Mills <strong>Co</strong>., <strong>Ltd</strong>. areclassified as investments in associated companies since the <strong>Co</strong>mpany does not have any control over the businessoperations <strong>of</strong> investee companies.In 2006, the <strong>Co</strong>mpany and its subsidiary invested Baht 311 million in ordinary shares <strong>of</strong> Shanghai <strong>Saha</strong> - <strong>Union</strong>Spinning Mill No.7 <strong>Co</strong>., <strong>Ltd</strong>., which is a spinning factory in China (the <strong>Co</strong>mpany only : Baht 248 million). A result <strong>of</strong> suchinvestment the <strong>Co</strong>mpany directly holds 40 percent <strong>of</strong> the equity <strong>of</strong> this company and the combined equity interest <strong>of</strong> the<strong>Co</strong>mpany and its subsidiary is 50 percent.<strong>The</strong> share <strong>of</strong> income from investments in 11 associated companies accounted for under the equity methodamounting to approximately Baht 680 million, as included in the income statements for the year ended 31 December2006 (2005 : 15 companies <strong>of</strong> Baht 361 million), were determined based on the financial statements which were auditedby their auditors.<strong>The</strong> shares <strong>of</strong> income from investments in 25 associated companies accounted for under the equity methodamounting to approximately Baht 165 million, as included in the income statements for the years ended 31 December2006 (2005 : 22 companies <strong>of</strong> Baht 166 million) have generally been calculated from financial statements prepared by themanagement <strong>of</strong> those companies, and not audited by their auditors. However, the management believes that therewould be no material discrepancies if those financial statements had been audited by the associated companiesû auditors.11.
