Not only did thefaux finish come out beautifully, but the work wascompleted in half the estimated time.Don was most proud of the work he did onthe main entrances and doors to GuggenheimHall. He explained that on the west entrancealone it took seven coats of stripper to get downto bare wood. What made the work challengingwas the many detailed engravings on thedoors and the surrounding moldings of theentrance. The stripping, sanding, staining andvarnishing (three coats of marine semi-gloss)took him three weeks to complete. “The doorsglow. It’s really great to bring these 80 year olddoors back to their original beauty,” he said.Don not only received recognition from theuniversity for his outstanding skills as a painter, but also a Five Star Safety Award from LongPainting for his exceptional safety record.Congratulations all around!!!!8 OCTOBER-DECEMBER 2007 • JOURNAL
