Important dates:February 13 Last day any student may drop a course or withdraw from school withoutreceiving a grade;March 24 Spring recess begins;April 02 Classes resume;April 07 Last day any student may drop or withdraw from a course;May 05 Classes end.ALL PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES MUST BE TURNED OFF IN THECLASSROOM !!!Any successful learning experience requires mutual respect on behalf of the student <strong>and</strong> theinstructor. The instructor, as well as the fellow students, should not be subjected to any student'sbehavior that is in any way disruptive, rude, or challenging to the instructor's authority in theclassroom. A student should not feel intimidated or demeaned by his/her instructor <strong>and</strong> studentsmust remember that the instructor has primary responsibility for control over classroom behavior<strong>and</strong> maintenance of academic integrity. The instructor can order the temporary removal orexclusion from the classroom of any student engaged in disruptive conduct or conduct violatingthe general rules <strong>and</strong> regulations of the institution. Disruptive behavior includes, but is notlimited to the following: receiving beeper or cell phone calls during class, leaving class early orcoming to class habitually late, eating in class, talking out of turn, doing assignments for otherclasses, watching movies, reading the newspaper, sleeping, <strong>and</strong> engaging in other activities thatdetract from the classroom learning experience.ACADEMIC DISHONESTY:When one takes credit for another’s work or uses unauthorized devices (such as calculators) inthe course, when they are expressly forbidden, it is cheating. This may occur during in classexams/quizzes or take-home exams/quizzes in this course. The code of student conduct is in theUM-St. Louis Student H<strong>and</strong>book.According to the University ‘s Collected Rules <strong>and</strong> Regulations (Chapter 200: Student Conduct),the term Cheating includes but is not limited to: (i) use of any unauthorized assistance in takingquizzes, tests, or examinations; (ii) dependence upon the aid of sources beyond those authorizedby the instructor in writing papers, preparing reports, solving problems, or carrying out otherassignments; (iii) acquisition or possession without permission of tests or other academicmaterial belonging to a member of the University faculty or staff; or (iv) knowingly providingany unauthorized assistance to another student on quizzes, tests, or examinations. Whencheating is determined, a zero grade will be given on the specific exam/quiz <strong>and</strong> the student(s)who is/are involved in the cheating will be reported to the Department of <strong>Math</strong>ematics <strong>and</strong> theOffice of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.Having a formula sheet, a calculator, a cell phone during the test is cheating. Fake notesfrom the hospital <strong>and</strong> doctors <strong>and</strong> unverifiable excuses count as academic dishonesty.
