Sustaining Growth 29Strengthening resilienceA thunderous blast at <strong>Keppel</strong>Shipyard Gul (KSG) on2 <strong>March</strong> <strong>2012</strong> startledworkers in the yard.The mock explosion was partof a joint security exercise by<strong>Keppel</strong> Offshore and Marine(<strong>Keppel</strong> O&M) SecurityDepartment and membersof the Shipyard SecurityWatch Group, and the HomeTeam comprising the LandPolice, Police Task Forcefrom Special OperationsCommand, Police CoastGuard and the SingaporeCivil Defence Force.The exercise, namedEx Gunyard, is in line withregulatory requirementsof the International Shipsand Port Facilities SecurityCode.Ex Gunyard commencedwith tabletop exercises oflow-level scenarios playingoutacross all <strong>Keppel</strong> O&Myards, and culminated with ahigh-level simulated terroristattack at KSG.The exercise put to thetest the robustness of<strong>Keppel</strong> O&M’s BusinessContinuity Managementframework, which underpinsits ability to perform dailyoperations and deliver criticalservices to customers withminimal disruptions duringemergencies.The exercise was intendedto address and managepotential threats anddisruptions to operationsarising from epidemicoutbreak, terrorism, naturalcalamities and damagesto critical facilities. Moreimportantly, it familiarisesall involved parties with theactions to be taken in theevent of an emergency.Anthony Toh, Group SecurityManager of <strong>Keppel</strong> O&M,said, “Our ability to recoverquickly from an unexpecteddisruption depends on thequality of our preparations.“The exercise providesan opportunity for allstakeholders to worktogether through a disaster,and test our preparednessand emergency planning atthe organisational level.To ensure that the organisation is equipped to respond to crises in a concerted and collective way, <strong>Keppel</strong> O&M carried out a joint securityexercise at its yards together with the Home Team“It also serves as a reminderthat Singapore cannot takeits security and stability forgranted, as such events canhappen at any time, withoutwarning.” keppelite<strong>Keppel</strong>ite I <strong>March</strong> <strong>2012</strong>
