PART 3: BELIAL – A RULING SPIRIT OF WICKEDNESSHe is one of the most wicked and vile spirits in the kingdom of darkness. “<strong>Belial</strong>” ismentioned twenty-seven times in the Old Testament and once in the New Testament.Hebrew word “beliyaal” which is translated as <strong>Belial</strong> sixteen times in the OldTestament. <strong>The</strong> word is also translated in other verses as wicked, ungodly, andnaughty.<strong>The</strong> Strong’s definition of “beliyaal” is:“without profit, worthless, destruction, wickedness, evil,naughty”.<strong>The</strong> most common of these definitions is :WORTHLESSNESS.Webster’s definition of WORTHLESSNESS is:“valueless, useless, contemptible, despicable.Despicable is defined as “deserving to be despised”.obnoxious as to rouse moral indignation.”This means “worthless or<strong>Belial</strong>’s work is to cause men to commit sins that are so vile and contemptible that itROUSES MORAL INDIGNATION. This will bring the curse and the judgment of God.Deuteronomy 13: 12-17 “12 If you hear it said in one of your cities which the Lord yourGod has given you in which to dwell 13 That certain base fellows (the children of <strong>Belial</strong>)have gone out from your midst and have enticed away the inhabitants of their city,saying, Let us go and serve other gods—gods you have not known— 14 <strong>The</strong>n you shallinquire and make search and ask diligently. <strong>And</strong> behold, if it is true and certain that suchan abominable thing has been done among you, 15 You shall surely smite theinhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly and all who are init and its beasts with the edge of the sword. 16 <strong>And</strong> you shall collect all its spoil into themidst of its open square and shall burn the city with fire with every bit of its spoil [as awhole burnt offering] to the Lord your God. It shall be a heap [of ruins] forever; it shallnot be built again. 17 <strong>And</strong> nothing of the accursed thing shall cling to your hand, so thatthe Lord may turn from the fierceness of His anger, and show you mercy and havecompassion on you and multiply you, as He swore to your fathers …”106
