JUNE 25, 2012 

A Regular Meeting of the Freehold Regional High School District Board of Education will 

be held on Monday, June 25, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. and the Board upon motion will convene 

into Closed Executive Session until 8:00 p.m. and will thereafter resume the regular meeting 

in the Administration Building, 11 Pine Street, Englishtown, NJ 07726. President Moses 

called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. with the following in attendance: 

Members present were: C. Accettola, E. Canario, K. Lavin, R. Lawson, M. Messinger, M. 

Tomazic, H. Moses. Also present were C. Sampson, S. Boyce, Dr. S. Koegler, and Dr. N. 

Hazel. Board attorney, John Comegno, also present. 

Members absent were: W. Bruno and J. Sutera

clerks of the townships and boroughs within the Regional High School District have been 

duly notified and the requirements of posting of notices have been met.

Mr. Sampson and Dr. Hazel presented on Violence, Vandalism, and Substance Abuse in our 

schools. 

Mr. Sampson commented on the following: 

� Overview of the 2011-2012 graduation data 

� Scholarship monies awarded to our students totaled $41 million

� Thanked all those involved in the Graduation Preparations for all six high schools. 

� Congratulated the three new Assistant Principals, Mr. Craig Chern, Ms. Shanna 

Howell, and Mr. Jesse Renna. 

� Congratulated the new Acting Principal of Manalapan High School, Mr. Adam 

Angelozzi. 

� Thanked Ms. Jennifer Sharp for her hard work and dedication as Acting Principal at 

Manalapan High School. 

2) BOARD REPORTS 

Mr. Sampson reported on the following activities in the Policy Committee including: 

� First reading of policy revisions will occur on the July 16 th agenda. Second reading 

to occur on the August 27 th agenda. 

Mr. Moses and Mr. Sampson reported on the following activities in the Negotiations 

Committee including: 

� Currently we have four tentative agreements with the Teachers Association, 

Principals Association, Supervisor or Extracurricular Activities Association, and the 

Supervisors Associations. 

� A number of other associations should be settled by week end and Memorandum of 

Agreements should be on the July 16 th agenda. 

F. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

K-4 AUTHORIZATION TO SUBMIT APPLICATION FOR APPROVAL OF A NEW CAREER 

AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM OF STUDY

Education (OCTE) of the NJDOE for the district’s Fine and Performing Arts Entertainment 

Technology (Video) Academy. The purpose of the application is to pursue Carl D. Perkins grant

RESLOVED that the Freehold Regional High School District Board of Education approves four (4) 

Freehold Township High School students and one (1) chaperone to attend the Family, Career and 

Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida 

from July 6-12, 2012. Student fundraising and out-of-pocket funds will cover all registration fees, 

non-district transportation, lodging, and meal expenses. There will be no cost to the Board of 

Education. 

K-6 AUTHORIZATION TO APPLY AND APPROVE HOWELL HIGH SCHOOL PARTICIPATION 

IN POSTSECONDARY ARTICULATION STEM EDUCATION PILOT PROGRAM 

SPONSORED BY THE COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY AND THE NEW JERSEY 

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION 

RESOLVED, the Freehold Regional High School District approves Howell High School 

participation in a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Program sponsored 

by The College of New Jersey’s Center for Excellence in STEM Education and the New Jersey 

Department of Education. The model Program of Study in Engineering and Technology for the high 

school level is project-based, standards-driven and connects cutting edge design challenges with 

career preparation and 21 st Century Skill development. Additionally, the curriculum is correlated

with Technology Student Association (TSA) competitive events and activities. Students enrolled in 

the program of study will have the opportunity to graduate with college credit that can be applied 

toward several STEM-related degree programs at county colleges and/or The College of New 

Jersey. There is no cost to the Board of Education for teacher professional development training and 

instructional classroom materials and resources. 

K-7 APPROVAL OF DUAL ENROLLMENT POSTSECONDARY ARTICULATION PROGRAM 

AGREEMENTS WITH BROOKDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE 

RESOLVED, Brookdale Community College and Freehold Regional High School District 

agree to renew the dual enrollment release program agreement for the period September 2012- 

June 2013. 

RESOLVED, Brookdale Community College and the Freehold Regional High School District 

agree to establish a dual enrollment agreement for the Brookdale Community College courses 

HIST 136 American Civilization II and HIST 137 Recent American History for the period 

September 2012-June 2013. These courses will be taught at Freehold High School by a district 

teacher approved as a Brookdale Community College adjunct faculty member. 

RESOLVED, Brookdale Community College and the Freehold Regional High School District 

agree to establish a dual enrollment agreement for the Brookdale Community College courses 

ENGL 121 English Composition: The Writing Process and ENGL 155 The Short Story for the 

period September-2012-June 2013. These courses will be taught at Howell High School by a 

district teacher approved as a Brookdale Community College adjunct faculty member.
