JUNE 25, 2012<br />

A Regular Meeting of the <strong>Freehold</strong> <strong>Regional</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> Board of Education will<br />

be held on Monday, June 25, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. and the Board upon motion will convene<br />

into Closed Executive Session until 8:00 p.m. and will thereafter resume the regular meeting<br />

in the Administration Building, 11 Pine Street, Englishtown, NJ 07726. President Moses<br />

called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. with the following in attendance:<br />

Members present were: C. Accettola, E. Canario, K. Lavin, R. Lawson, M. Messinger, M.<br />

Tomazic, H. Moses. Also present were C. Sampson, S. Boyce, Dr. S. Koegler, and Dr. N.<br />

Hazel. Board attorney, John Comegno, also present.<br />

Members absent were: W. Bruno and J. Sutera<br />

Motioned by M. Tomazic, seconded by H. Moses and carried by unanimous roll call vote to<br />

Pursuant to the Open Public Meetings Act, Chapter 231, Public Laws of 1975, this meeting<br />

has been duly advertised in the Asbury Park Press, issue of May 3, 2012. All municipal<br />

clerks of the townships and boroughs within the <strong>Regional</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> have been<br />

duly notified and the requirements of posting of notices have been met.<br />

Mr. Angelozzi and Mr. Donahue presented on the Common Core.<br />

Mr. Moore presented on The Strategic Plan.<br />

Mr. Sampson and Dr. Hazel presented on Violence, Vandalism, and Substance Abuse in our<br />

schools.<br />

Mr. Sampson commented on the following:<br />

� Overview of the 2011-2012 graduation data<br />

� Scholarship monies awarded to our students totaled $41 million

� Workplace Training Program Grant<br />

� Thanked all those involved in the Graduation Preparations for all six high schools.<br />

� Congratulated the three new Assistant Principals, Mr. Craig Chern, Ms. Shanna<br />

� Congratulated the new Acting Principal of Manalapan <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>, Mr. Adam<br />

Angelozzi.<br />

� Thanked Ms. Jennifer Sharp for her hard work and dedication as Acting Principal at<br />

Manalapan <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>.<br />

2) BOARD REPORTS<br />

Mr. Sampson reported on the following activities in the Policy Committee including:<br />

� First reading of policy revisions will occur on the July 16 th agenda. Second reading<br />

to occur on the August 27 th agenda.<br />

Mr. Moses and Mr. Sampson reported on the following activities in the Negotiations<br />

Committee including:<br />

� Currently we have four tentative agreements with the Teachers Association,<br />

Principals Association, Supervisor or Extracurricular Activities Association, and the<br />

Supervisors Associations.<br />

� A number of other associations should be settled by week end and Memorandum of<br />

Agreements should be on the July 16 th agenda.<br />

RESOLVED that the <strong>Freehold</strong> <strong>Regional</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> Board of Education approves the<br />

following staff members for employment for after-school recreation services for classified students.<br />

The program is after-school for two (2) hours per day, two (2) days per week. Stipend will depend<br />

upon negotiated collective bargaining agreement and employment contingent upon enrollment.<br />

RESOLVED that the <strong>Freehold</strong> <strong>Regional</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> Board of Education approves the<br />

following replacement staff member for summer employment in the security position for the<br />

district’s summer fee-based credit recovery program. Employment will begin on July 2, 2012<br />

through August 13, 2012 (closed for July 4, 2012) from 7:45am-12:15pm. Stipend will depend<br />

upon negotiated collective bargaining agreement and employment contingent upon enrollment.<br />

RESOLVED that the <strong>Freehold</strong> <strong>Regional</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> Board of Education approves the<br />

administration to submit a program of study application to the Office of Career and Technical<br />

Education (OCTE) of the NJDOE for the district’s Fine and Performing Arts Entertainment<br />

Technology (Video) Academy. The purpose of the application is to pursue Carl D. Perkins grant<br />

funding and OCTE recognition for the academy program under the federal career cluster of Arts,<br />

Audio-Visual Technology and Communications.<br />

K-5 APPROVAL OF OVERNIGHT EXCURSION FOR FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL<br />

FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES/FCCLA STUDENTS TO ORLANDO, FLORIDA<br />

Motion to adopt the following resolution:<br />

RESLOVED that the <strong>Freehold</strong> <strong>Regional</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> Board of Education approves four (4)<br />

<strong>Freehold</strong> Township <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> students and one (1) chaperone to attend the Family, Career and<br />

Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida<br />

from July 6-12, 2012. Student fundraising and out-of-pocket funds will cover all registration fees,<br />

non-district transportation, lodging, and meal expenses. There will be no cost to the Board of<br />

Education.<br />

K-6 AUTHORIZATION TO APPLY AND APPROVE HOWELL HIGH SCHOOL PARTICIPATION<br />

IN POSTSECONDARY ARTICULATION STEM EDUCATION PILOT PROGRAM<br />

SPONSORED BY THE COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY AND THE NEW JERSEY<br />

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION<br />

RESOLVED, the <strong>Freehold</strong> <strong>Regional</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> approves Howell <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong><br />

participation in a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Program sponsored<br />

by The College of New Jersey’s Center for Excellence in STEM Education and the New Jersey<br />

Department of Education. The model Program of Study in Engineering and Technology for the high<br />

school level is project-based, standards-driven and connects cutting edge design challenges with<br />

career preparation and 21 st Century Skill development. Additionally, the curriculum is correlated

with Technology Student Association (TSA) competitive events and activities. Students enrolled in<br />

the program of study will have the opportunity to graduate with college credit that can be applied<br />

toward several STEM-related degree programs at county colleges and/or The College of New<br />

Jersey. There is no cost to the Board of Education for teacher professional development training and<br />

instructional classroom materials and resources.<br />

K-7 APPROVAL OF DUAL ENROLLMENT POSTSECONDARY ARTICULATION PROGRAM<br />

AGREEMENTS WITH BROOKDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE<br />

RESOLVED, Brookdale Community College and <strong>Freehold</strong> <strong>Regional</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong><br />

agree to renew the dual enrollment release program agreement for the period September 2012-<br />

June 2013.<br />

RESOLVED, Brookdale Community College and the <strong>Freehold</strong> <strong>Regional</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong><br />

agree to establish a dual enrollment agreement for the Brookdale Community College courses<br />

HIST 136 American Civilization II and HIST 137 Recent American History for the period<br />

September 2012-June 2013. These courses will be taught at <strong>Freehold</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> by a district<br />

teacher approved as a Brookdale Community College adjunct faculty member.<br />

RESOLVED, Brookdale Community College and the <strong>Freehold</strong> <strong>Regional</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong><br />

agree to establish a dual enrollment agreement for the Brookdale Community College courses<br />
