Oncology Receives Donation of Tea Cart and Clock from
Grateful Family
On October 27, Sacred Heart
Hospital’s Oncology Department
received a generous donation from
a family who recently lost a loved
one. The items consist of a clock
with a small engraved plaque that
reads “Times a Wastin” and an
antique Tea Cart. In Oncology, this
cart holds a deeper significance as
it is also known as a Grieving Cart,
which is supplied with coffee and
cookies, and brought into the room
of a dying patient to help console
them, their family and friends.
More importantly, during this
process the nurse takes time to
offer their condolences. The nurse
plays a critical role in not only
caring for the patient, but also the
family.
This is a time for the family to
gather round the patient and talk
Friends Host Hope Gala
Enhancing Cancer Care to Our Region
On October 1, the Friends of Sacred Heart Hospital hosted the 2011
Hope Gala to help raise money toward the hospital’s Cancer Care
Center. The theme took guests back to a Roaring 1920’s Speakeasy
that offered fine dinning by Sacred Heart’s own Chef Randy and the
Nutrition Services team, casino games, dancing to Twin Cities show
band Belladiva, and a live auction of exclusive experiences.
In addition, the evening featured a heartwarming testimony from
Sacred Heart’s own Deb Gorman-Fouts. As a former patient in the
hospital’s Cancer Care Center, Deb spoke of her own fight with
cancer, its effects on her family, and how Sacred Heart’s Cancer Team
helped to give them the strength to prevail. In all, the event raised
more than $45,000 to help fund the most advanced technology and
treatments available in the region.
“We are so pleased with the tremendous support for our Cancer Care
Program, through this very special event,” said Ann Kaiser, CFRE,
Director, Development, Sacred Heart Hospital. “It was wonderful to
see the businesses and individuals in the community come together
to celebrate for a great cause.” Sacred Heart would also like to offer
a special thank you to the Hope Gala Committee members: Jennifer
Block, Jennifer Conaway, Joey Forster, Mike Happe, and Committee
Chair Steve Marsich.
