Howard,’68, was named vice presidentfor Academic Affairs atMississippi <strong>College</strong> in June,having served as the institution’sdean of the <strong>College</strong> ofArts and Sciences for the lastfive years.A native of JeffersonCounty, TN, Howard joinedthe MC faculty in 1977as assistant professor of history.He was promoted to associateprofessor of history in1983 and to the rank of professorin 1989. After graduatingmagna cum laude from C-Nwith a B.A. in history andpolitical science, he earnedboth the M.A. and Ph.D. fromUT.He is the author of twobooks, numerous articles andpapers, including “ColonialNew York, 1664-1776,” whichwas included in the CornellUniversity Press book TheEmpire State: A History of NewYork. Howard and his wife,Kathleen, have two sons.18
