A strong belief in theorganization’s mission, a desire to makea difference in the community andgratitude for help that family andfriends received are among the mostcommon reasons for giving.Ask South Florida Baptist Hospitalteam members why they give and mostwould cite the reasons above, butalmost always their first response is thisone: because the hospital feels like alarge, friendly family – supportive,welcoming and positive.Deborah Perry, RN in Labor and Delivery,monitors a patient on state of the art equipment.“I’ve worked at several differenthospitals and never contributed to anyother team member campaigns exceptfor here,” says Deborah Perry, aregistered nurse in labor and delivery,and a South Florida Baptist Hospitalteam member for the past five years.“I’m always inspired when I walkby the cafeteria and see the wall ofphotos of so many employees who haveworked here for 30 years or more –some even for 45 years,” says Perry. “Ilike knowing that I can walk down thehall and people say hello. Whensomeone has a problem, the team joinstogether to help, and in turn we wantto help the hospital, to see theorganization thrive and grow.”Perry also points to the need forcommunity support to ensure thatSouth Florida Baptist continues toremain financially viable. “My parentslive here in Plant City and I want tomake sure that they have excellenthealth care right here in their ownbackyard, just a few minutes away,” shesays. “When they need help, I don’twant them to have to drive to Tampaor Lakeland or Brandon.”Amelia Harris is one of SouthFlorida Baptist Hospital’s long-timeemployees – a 30-plus year food servicerepresentative. Two of her fourchildren were born at the hospital.“Giving means receiving in return,” shesays. “We are a big community andyou never know when you might needassistance yourself.”The South Florida Baptist HospitalFoundation launched the first TeamAmelia Harris, Food Service Representative,enjoys creating meals each day for our patients.We need your help! Team Members Offer Extraordinary Support– ContinuedMember Annual Giving Campaign in 1997. Without anyhistory or experience to draw upon, it was hard to knowwhat the results might be. But the precedent was set –team member support was very positive, with 123employees raising a total of $13,827 for the campaign.Just four years later, in 2001, the campaign had not onlygained tremendous visibility, but the statistics had morethan doubled: 265 team members contributed a total of$25,000, surpassing the $23,000 goal.By 2005, the number of team members donating hadgrown to 435, with a total amount raised of $41,612 –$6, 000 above goal. And this year, the results were thebest in the campaign’s history, with 496 employeesdonating a total of $47,342.A clinical pharmacist, Bob Kauffman has been atSouth FloridaBaptist Hospitalfor eight years.“It’s a goodplace to workand a good placeto give moneyto,” he says. “Iknow my moneyis going toworthwhilecauses like thenew emergencydepartment andRobert Kauffman, Clinical Pharmacist, ensuresthe pediatriccenter. Any timeI’ve brought my family members here, they have had apositive experience. If I can recommend the hospital tomy family, I would recommend it to anyone.”Maria Salazar was a student at Polk CountyCommunity College when she was introduced to SouthFlorida BaptistHospital duringthe clinicalrotation requiredfor her degree as aradiologytechnician. Thatwas five years ago.She was hired bythe hospital aftergraduation and isnow a Ct-Scanspecialist. “Iencourageeveryone to give,” Maria Salazar, Radiology Technician, performsshe says. “I know Ct scans to better diagnose patients' illnesses.when I make adonation to the Foundation it helps the communitybecause our patients are the community.”“We are grateful for the tremendous support wereceive each year from our team members and proud oftheir partnership with us in ensuring the future of SouthFlorida Baptist Hospital,” says Judy Martin, executivedirector of the Foundation. “From 1999, when weestablished the first campaign goal of $15,000 to this year’scampaign goal of $43,000, we have consistently exceededthe expectation for success.”quality and accuracy in medication delivery.
