N<strong>on</strong>e of the applicants in this secti<strong>on</strong> had enough time to “prove up” <strong>on</strong> their homesteads, and thusnever received patent to the land. Each record begins with a legal descripti<strong>on</strong> of the claim, including thetownship, range, secti<strong>on</strong>, aliquot and total acreage of each parcel. <strong>The</strong> ‘Applicant’ is the pers<strong>on</strong> who filedthe homestead claim. ‘Filed’ refers to the date <strong>on</strong> which the applicati<strong>on</strong> was made. ‘Closed’ refers to the date<strong>on</strong> which the claim was given up to the government, either by cancellati<strong>on</strong> or the signing of a quitclaimdeed.
