DONOR REPORTMount Saint Vincent University has one of the mostheavily treed campuses in the Atlantic Region. It hashad the status of arboretum, which means having adiverse collection of trees and shrubs that encompassthe property. Overlooking the ocean below, the Mountcampus is undeniably beautiful.The Gift Tree Program has been a tremendous successthrough the years. Approximately 100 trees have beenplanted on campus, adding to its beauty and charm.But with the success of this program, space to continueplanting gift trees on campus is limited, at best. We arevery excited therefore to introduce a new Gift ProgramWe want to take advantage of our exceptional campus bycreating welcoming and comfortable outdoor spaces. Thisincludes creating sheltered social squares, to provideprotection from the elements; increasing the numberof benches, to sit and enjoy; and installing bike racks,to encourage health and wellness by taking a bike toschool and work.Another new strategy is to restore an urban forest oncampus hit hard by Hurricane Juan in 2003. A seriesof footpaths run through this wooded section of landbetween Rosaria and Seton. With appropriate planning,such as the installation of park benches and removalof tree debris, we can create an environment to study,reflect, and enjoy the abundance of wildlife thatsurrounds us.The new program will work much the same way as thegift tree program. The donors will be provided with alist of items and their purchase price. There will be theopportunity to choose from a list of available spaceson campus to locate the item and the wording that willappear on the plaque to be mounted.
