Katarzyna NowackaStream was bad for him. The rest of Witchwood residents had to bring himDragon berries — the cure for the Dragon’s power lust.Classical themes: The author uses many classical themes, but in different, sometimes unexpected twists. We have Griffin here, who, like the mythicalNarcissus, falls in love with his reflection. His friend — Dragon acts likethe guardian of the Witchwood’s, just as the mythical Ladon, known as theguardian of the Garden of the Hesperides. Also the famous king Midas had totake a bath in a stream to get rid of his ability to turn everything into gold. What is more, this story shows the unstoppable lust for power, which waswhat drove many mythical tragedies and in a way constituted a side effect ofthe Greek value of competition (P„˛Ì).Key words: Griffin, Siren, Dragon, Narcissus.Bibliography:Hesperydy, Midas, in: Stanisław Stabryła, Słownik szkolny. Mitologia greckai rzymska, Warszawa: Wydawnictwa Szkolne i Pedagogiczne, 1997, pp. 102,150–151.Entry by Ewa Wziętek, ewawzietek@student.uw.edu.pl.246
