INTEL CES CONNECT TO LIFE EXPERIENCE 2012This rule-based interactive system invited Intel’s CES guests to “Connect to Life” quiteliterally. Using any one of six input stations, each guest could create a unique shape, then watch as that shape migrated to a 168’ long, 2200 square foot wave-shapedprojection map across the entire Intel booth. Each shape then multiplied, lathed andanimated to create a bioluminescent life form with its own unique personality. Somelife forms swam, some flew and some tumbled. Over 30,000 unique life forms werecreated over four days -- approximately one life form for every 3.5 seconds of the show. The payoff for Intel was a wondrous visual metaphor for their Compute Continuum thatviscerally delivered the Connect to Life theme.INTEL INFOSCAPEIn developing this interactive feature for CES, we were presented with two challenges:create a stunning example of how information might be accessed in the future, andmake everything in the demo run on a single, stock Intel Core i7 machine. The resultingInfoScape installation stunned audiences with its interactive 3-d interface, real-timeaccess to 18 data feeds (from Google News to Flickr to Twitter), and remarkable 120frames per second / 1920 x 1920 image. NBC News proclaimed it “The coolest thingat CES,” DVICE headlined “Intel InfoScape Flaunts Jaw-Dropping Graphics” and CNNsaid “Intel’s InfoScape allows you to interact with real-time data in a radical new way.”With hundreds of Google and YouTube postings, the Intel InfoScape has become aworldwide sensation.DOUG AITKEN, SONG 1Developed over the course of two years, Doug Aitken’s Song1 project became an iconwithin the Washington, DC art and culture scene in 2012. Attracting thousands ofvisitors during its seven-week run, Song1 was a very complex undertaking requiringmonths of planning and engineering to execute. Using state-of-the-art projectors, sound system and media servers, the piece, which uses the song “I Only Have Eyes ForYou” as the launching point for a 30-minute study of modern individualism, illustratedthe effectiveness of large scale media art in an urban setting.INTEL MUSEUM REDESIGNWe contributed seven interactive exhibits to a complete overhaul of the Intel Museum, located at Intel’s headquarters in Santa Clara, California. The exhibits featured 2D and3D interfaces that ranged from highlights of Intel’s history to illustrations of Moore’sLaw. This nearly year-long effort centered on building disparate exhibits with vastlydifferent content needs, while still ensuring that every exhibit would be guessableand easy to navigate. Many little momentary surprises, and the use of humor whereappropriate, struck a balance between accuracy and approachability with each exhibit’scontent.ORACLE DIGITAL CONVERSATIONFor its annual Openworld conference, Oracle Corporation sought a highly visiblemedium through which its 45,000 attendees could participate in one grand, ongoing“conversation.” We supported Oracle in developing initial concepts and physicaldesigns, assembling an all-star team of collaborators from many fields and creating thesite design for LED and projection installations.
