Release Notes: <strong>Restricted</strong> <strong>Substances</strong><strong>Data</strong> <strong>Module</strong> Release <strong>3.1</strong>for GRANTA MIJanuary 2013 ReleaseIntroductionThe <strong>Restricted</strong> <strong>Substances</strong> data module is a regularly updated information resource that helpsyou to understand your exposure to the legislation and standards that may restrict substancesused in manufacturing your products.The data module is designed to be used as part of the GRANTA MI:<strong>Restricted</strong> <strong>Substances</strong>package, allowing you to apply the data to assess and manage restricted substances risk andensure compliance.What’s new in this release?This release contains the following improvements and updates:• Addition of Technical Readiness Level to the Coatings data table. This attribute providesan indication of the level of development of each coating.• Addition of a new list in the Legislation and Lists table: ‘High Risk of ObsolescenceIndicator’. This comprises substances that (i) are classified as Carcinogens, Mutagens orReproductive Toxins on the CLP regulation, and (ii) are listed on both the SIN (Substituteit Now!) List 2.0 and the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) Priority List 2.2.• Update to the REACH Candidate List – Addition of the 54 substances added on the 19 thDecember 2012 and associated Where Used data.The current total of restricted substances in this release stands at 6817 substances.© 2012 <strong>Granta</strong> <strong>Design</strong> Ltd


How can installing this release help you?• You can use the Technical Readiness Level attribute in the Coatings data table to helpfind alternative coatings for particular applications. For example, you can use it to assessthe level of technical development of candidate replacement coatings for cadmiumplating on electrical connectors.• <strong>Substances</strong> that are on the 'High Risk of Obsolescence Indicator’ list, and particularlythose that are also classified as both Wide Dispersive Use and High Production Volume(these are attributes in the substance record), are at greater risk of becoming restrictedor phased out. Searching for materials and specifications that contain substances on thislist can support proactive obsolescence risk analysis workflows.• Applying the latest legislation updates will improve the accuracy of restricted substancesreporting and obsolescence risk analysis.• REACH reports in particular require the latest version of the REACH Candidate List to bein place, together with associated ‘Where Used’ data.System requirementsThis release of the <strong>Restricted</strong> <strong>Substances</strong> <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Module</strong> is available for GRANTA MI versions 5and 6, but compatibility with your existing system depends on whether you need to upgrade anexisting <strong>Restricted</strong> <strong>Substances</strong> database using <strong>Data</strong> Update files.• If you need to upgrade an existing <strong>Restricted</strong> <strong>Substances</strong> database using <strong>Data</strong> Updatefiles, then this release is compatible with GRANTA MI Version 5 only.• If you are installing the data module as a standalone database, then this release iscompatible with GRANTA MI Versions 5 and 6.See the documentation associated with the GRANTA MI Version 5 or Version 6 release fordetailed system requirements, and instructions for installing the database.This data module requires 690Mb of disk space in SQL Server 2005 or later for installation.Special instructionsPlease note that customers applying <strong>Data</strong> Update files should install releases in sequence (i.e.release 2.2 must be installed prior to installing release <strong>3.1</strong>).
