North <strong>Oldham</strong> High SchoolSchool-Based Decision Making Council<strong>Parent</strong> <strong>Election</strong> InformationThis is your opportunity to make a difference. A two-year term position will beopening up on the SBDM Council for the term from July 1, 2013- June 30, 2015.<strong>Election</strong>s for this position will take place on May 21 st from 7:30 am – 7:30 pm atNOHS. This is the night of our student awards programs which begin at 6:00 pm.Please find the nomination form below.What is an SBDM council? As mandated by state law, the council is thegoverning body for this school. It determines school policy for curriculum, staffing,discipline, scheduling, instructional practices, extra-curricular activities and othermatters pertinent to the operation of the school. (A more detailed information packetis available in the office.)Who serves on the council? 2 parents, 3 teachers, and the principal. Theprincipal serves as the chairperson. In schools with 8% or more minoritypopulations, a minority parent and minority teacher must also be elected.Who may run for council? Any parent, stepparent, foster parent or legal guardianof a student who will be attending the school during the entire 2-year period of the2013-14 and 2014-15 school years is eligible to run. A parent is ineligible if he/sheis an employee or relative of an employee of the school or the district central office,or a local school board member or the spouse of a local school board member.If you want to nominate yourself or someone else for the council, what shouldyou do? Complete the attached nomination form by writing a brief paragraph thatincludes basic information about yourself or someone else and why you would liketo serve on the SBDM council. Return this form and paragraph to the school officeby 3:30 pm on Wednesday, May 15 th . Your paragraph will be posted on the PTSAwebsite, school website, and the daily email announcements prior to the election.When and who may vote? Voting will take place on Tuesday, May 21 st in theschool office from 7:30 am – 7:30 pm. Only parents who will have children at North<strong>Oldham</strong> High School for the 2013-2015 school years may vote.
