D EVELOPMENT O FFICE AND O LD B LUNDELLIAN C LUBCharlie LeighBook LaunchOBCC 60TH ANNIVERSARY DINNERDuring his Gap year CharlieLeigh (W 1998-2004) set off onoverland odyssey tocircumnavigate the Middle Eastfrom Istanbul to Jerusalem.The story of this trip includingrunning out of money and findinghimself in situations of which hehad no experience has been setout in his book ‘Educating anEnglistanee Inshallah’. It is anexcellent read, and as Sir RalphFiennes says: “This is anambitious book for an 18 year oldauthor and he has managed itbrilliantly”. There is anintroduction by Sir ChristopherOndaatje and illustrations are byBlundellian Lauren Kalsi (W).Copies of the book may beobtained from the Beale Centre.The Old Blundellian Cricket Club organised a 60th Anniversarydinner at the County Ground, Taunton on 1st October 2011. The eventwas immaculately organised by Chad Murrin and 60 OBs andpartners enjoyed an excellent meal and a veryentertaining speech from Vic Marks (FH 1968-73, Englandand Somerset). David Fursdon (Staff 1979-84, Governor1984-2011, Chairman 2000-2011) was also present as aguest of the Old Blundellian Club, which is grateful for hisconsistent efforts in moving OBs, the <strong>School</strong> andGovernors along in harmony. An eclecticmixture of over 80 OBs andfriends enjoyed the evening andmany had copies of the booksigned by Charlie.JOHN HOLLINGSHEAD LUNCHPeter Hartland (NC 1941-46), prompted by a visit to the UK by John Hollingshead(NC1942-46), organised a lunch in the Beale Centre for contemporaries and theirpartners. John was over from Australia, where he has been instrumental in keepingOBs in contact with one another, and the chance was taken to meet up and seeBlundell’s. After drinks in the Beale Centre there was a tour of North Close followed bylunch at the Beale Centre for OBs and their partners.28
