Active coolingAC-Box42/43The AC-Box efficiently combinesheating and coolingThe Viessmann AC-Box combines activeand natural cooling in heat pump systems,thus making them even more versatileand convenient. The system changes overautomatically according to the required roomtemperature. If only a low cooling capacityis required, natural cooling is sufficient, butif that is no longer enough active coolingis added.Cooling using tiny amounts of energyWith natural cooling, the compressor circuitis not needed. Only the brine and heatingcircuit pumps are operational and utilise thetemperature differential between the roomsand the ground or groundwater. In this way,rooms can be cooled very cost effectively.Keep cool when it gets really hot outsideWith active cooling, the compressorcircuit starts to work. However, it does notprovide heating – the internal control unit, inconjunction with the AC-Box, reverses theoutput and input functions to actively transferheat out of the building to the geothermalprobe. Cold water then flows through theheating circuit itself – cooled down to 7 °Cif required.Utilising extracted energyIncidentally, direct use can also be madeof the heat transferred out of the rooms inthis way, for example for DHW heating or toheat a swimming pool. This means coolingand heating functions can be combinedextremely effectively.Well developed technology:The AC-Box (to the left of the heatpump) simply starts the relevantheat pump function – eitheractive or natural cooling, dependingon the required cooling capacity.
