AWARDS
This July, Cancer Research UK's Race for Life, the
popular 5km, women-only fundraiser supported by
Tesco, will be returning to Liverpool for the 8th time.
Race for Life returns
to Liverpool
Sunday
17 July
at Aintree
Racecourse
Organisers have been delighted by
the support and commitment
Liverpool’s women have shown
for Race for Life in the past. In 2004, over
3,700 women in the area raised £175,000.
This year, Cancer Research UK is hoping
to top that figure with a fundraising target
of £180,000 for the 4,000 women taking
part in the Liverpool race. In total, Race
for Life is aiming to raise £23 million.
The money raised by those taking part
provides much needed funds for Cancer
Research UK’s continuing work to cure
cancer faster. Cancer Research UK is
currently funding a range of research at
the University of Liverpool. This includes
fundamental research into pancreatic,
lung and skin cancer.
As always, spaces in Race for Life are
strictly limited, so why not sign up today?
The event is open to women of all fitness
levels it is the money you raise, not the
time you complete the course in, that is
important.
To enter Cancer Research UK’s Race for
Life visit: www.raceforlife.org or call the
hotline on 08705 134 314.
Interested in
your child’s
language
development?
Dr Caroline Rowland from
the School of Psychology
is collaborating with colleagues
from the University of
Manchester on a two-year
Economic and Social Research
Council (ESRC) funded research
study on language development
in children.
She needs to recruit children aged
approximately 2 years 7 months, from
Merseyside or Wirral, to participate in
the study entitled The Acquisition of
Auxiliaries in Early Child Language.
The children will be studied
longitudinally for eight months using
a mixture of naturalistic speech
recordings and elicitation studies
designed to encourage children to use
certain words. The study will give us a
deeper understanding of how children
learn to use language.
If you would like further information,
or would like to register an interest in
your child participating in the study,
please contact Debbie Anderson
(research assistant) on
0151 794 1111 (ext. 41111).
