© An Post <strong>National</strong> <strong>Lottery</strong> Company 2011 Interactive Instant <strong>Game</strong> <strong>Rules</strong>VERSION 1 DECEMBER 2011The <strong>National</strong> <strong>Lottery</strong><strong>Rules</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Game</strong> <strong>FG</strong> <strong>19</strong> <strong>“Snakes</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Ladders</strong>”The following sets <strong>for</strong>th the rules <strong>for</strong> a <strong>National</strong> <strong>Lottery</strong> interactive <strong>Game</strong> (hereinafter known as<strong>“Snakes</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Ladders</strong>”) which will be operated by An Post <strong>National</strong> <strong>Lottery</strong> Company (“the Company”)as part of The <strong>National</strong> <strong>Lottery</strong>.The <strong>Game</strong> will commence on a date to be announced, <strong>and</strong> will continue until the Company publiclyannounces a termination date.These rules have been approved by the Minister <strong>for</strong> Public Expenditure <strong>and</strong> Re<strong>for</strong>m in accordancewith Section 28 of the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Lottery</strong> Act <strong>19</strong>86.GENERAL1. These rules are governed by The <strong>National</strong> <strong>Lottery</strong> Act <strong>19</strong>86, the General <strong>Rules</strong> <strong>for</strong> The <strong>National</strong><strong>Lottery</strong>, NLC’s Interactive Terms <strong>and</strong> Conditions <strong>and</strong> the NLC Interactive Privacy Statement.Copies of the General <strong>Rules</strong> <strong>for</strong> The <strong>National</strong> <strong>Lottery</strong>, NLC’s Interactive Terms <strong>and</strong> Conditions,the NLC Interactive Privacy Statement <strong>and</strong> these <strong>Game</strong> <strong>Rules</strong> are available by writing to An Post<strong>National</strong> <strong>Lottery</strong> Company, Abbey Street Lower, Dublin 1. The NLC Interactive Terms <strong>and</strong>Conditions <strong>and</strong> the NLC Interactive Privacy Statement can also be accessed via the <strong>National</strong><strong>Lottery</strong> website with the following URL: www.lottery.ie.2. The Company reserves the right to vary the <strong>for</strong>mat of the <strong>Game</strong>, <strong>and</strong> the value <strong>and</strong> number ofPrizes subject to the approval of the Minister <strong>for</strong> Public Expenditure <strong>and</strong> Re<strong>for</strong>m.6. Where the context so requires, in these <strong>Game</strong> <strong>Rules</strong>, the neuter gender shall include thefeminine or masculine gender <strong>and</strong> vice versa, the feminine gender shall include the masculinegender <strong>and</strong> vice-versa <strong>and</strong> the singular shall include the plural <strong>and</strong> vice-versa.DEFINITIONSThe following words <strong>and</strong> terms will have the following meanings unless the context clearly indicatesotherwise:1. Act means The <strong>National</strong> <strong>Lottery</strong> Act <strong>19</strong>86.2. Company or We or Us or NLC means An Post <strong>National</strong> <strong>Lottery</strong> Company.3. Customer Support means the Company's customer services helpline, contact details of whichare set out in the "Frequently Asked Questions" section of the Website.4. <strong>Game</strong> means this <strong>National</strong> <strong>Lottery</strong> interactive <strong>Game</strong> which can be played by Players via theWebsite, in which the determination of whether or not a Player has won a Prize (<strong>and</strong> the level ofany such Prize) is predetermined by the Interactive System at the point of purchase of the Play.<strong>Game</strong> <strong>FG</strong> <strong>19</strong> <strong>“Snakes</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Ladders</strong>” Page 3 of 8Version 1 Dec-11


© An Post <strong>National</strong> <strong>Lottery</strong> Company 2011 Interactive Instant <strong>Game</strong> <strong>Rules</strong>5. <strong>Game</strong> Details Screen means the screen on the Website setting out in<strong>for</strong>mation relating to a<strong>Game</strong>.6. <strong>Game</strong> Play Window means the screen on the Website via which a Player plays a <strong>Game</strong>.7. <strong>Game</strong> <strong>Rules</strong> mean any rules or conditions (including, without limit, the relevant name <strong>for</strong> a<strong>National</strong> <strong>Lottery</strong> interactive <strong>Game</strong>, how a Prize is won, Prize Structure <strong>and</strong> Play Method) issuedby the Company in addition to the NLC Interactive Terms <strong>and</strong> Conditions (hereby incorporated byreference) which apply only to a particular <strong>Game</strong>.8. High Tier Prize means a prize exceeding €499, paid by cheque <strong>and</strong> which must be redeemed atNLC headquarters or a prize claim centre (selected An Post Company Offices).9. Interactive System means the system (accessible via the Website) established <strong>and</strong> operated bythe NLC <strong>for</strong> the purpose of registering Players, administering Player Accounts, facilitating Plays,holding <strong>Game</strong>s related in<strong>for</strong>mation <strong>and</strong> paying Prizes.10. Interactive Terms <strong>and</strong> Conditions means the terms, conditions <strong>and</strong> rules which regulate themanner in which a Player may open, maintain <strong>and</strong> close a Player Account.11. Low Tier Prize means a Prize within the range of €1 - €99, which will be paid directly to aPlayer’s Wallet.12. Mid Tier Prize means a Prize up to a maximum of €499, but greater than the upper limit of theLow Tier Prize which may be determined by NLC from time to time. Mid Tier Prizes will be paidby cheque, stamped “Account Payee Only”, <strong>and</strong> posted to the address specified in Your PlayerAccount;13. Password means the alphanumeric identifier used by a Player to identify him/herself whenaccessing <strong>and</strong> using certain areas of the Interactive System.14. Pay Table means the grid that lists the Prize amount a Player can win in each of the variousscenarios that can occur during the <strong>Game</strong> play.15. Play means, in relation to any <strong>Game</strong>, any interaction by a Player with that <strong>Game</strong>, which mayyield a Prize, which must be purchased in advance of playing a <strong>Game</strong> <strong>and</strong> as described in the‘<strong>Game</strong> Entry Mechanism’ of these <strong>Game</strong> <strong>Rules</strong>.16. Player or You or Your means a person who plays <strong>Game</strong>s via the Website <strong>and</strong>, <strong>for</strong> theavoidance of doubt, has satisfied the various Player criteria as set out in the Interactive Terms<strong>and</strong> Conditions.17. Player Account means a Player's on-line account held on the Interactive System which containsa Player’s personal in<strong>for</strong>mation <strong>and</strong> all other details necessary to play a <strong>Game</strong>.18. Player History Screen means the screen displaying a Player's financial transaction historyaccessed via the “Financial Transactions” link in the "View My History" section of the Website<strong>and</strong> the Player’s interactive <strong>Game</strong> history accessed through the “<strong>Game</strong> Play” link in the “View MyHistory” section of the Website.<strong>19</strong>. Play Method means the method of interactive participation in a <strong>Game</strong> via the Website by aPlayer as specified under ‘<strong>Game</strong> Entry Mechanism’ of these <strong>Game</strong> <strong>Rules</strong>.20. Play Number means the number accessible on the relevant page of the Website which is uniqueto <strong>and</strong> which identifies a particular Play <strong>and</strong> which is recorded on the Interactive System.21. Prize means a prize won by a Player from a Play in a <strong>Game</strong> <strong>and</strong> which has been validated onthe Interactive System <strong>and</strong> is in accordance with these <strong>Game</strong> <strong>Rules</strong> in addition to the NLCInteractive Terms <strong>and</strong> Conditions (which are hereby incorporated by reference).22. Prize Structure means the number, value <strong>and</strong> odds of winning Prizes <strong>for</strong> a <strong>Game</strong> <strong>and</strong> the PrizeTiers within a <strong>Game</strong> as determined by the Company <strong>and</strong> as specified in the <strong>Game</strong> <strong>Rules</strong>;23. Prize Tier(s) means the Prizes available in the <strong>Game</strong> as set out in the ‘Determination of Prizes’.24. Qualified Person means a person who is 18 years of age or older, <strong>and</strong> who is otherwise eligibleto play the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Lottery</strong> interactive <strong>Game</strong>s.<strong>Game</strong> <strong>FG</strong> <strong>19</strong> <strong>“Snakes</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Ladders</strong>” Page 4 of 8Version 1 Dec-11

Try <strong>for</strong> Free <strong>Game</strong> means a <strong>Game</strong> which is available to registered Players free of charge <strong>and</strong><strong>for</strong> which there are notional prizes only.26. Unutilised Funds means any funds credited to a Player's Account (including Prizes) that are notused by the relevant Player to play <strong>Game</strong>s.27. User ID means the 6-30 character identifier used by a Player to identify himself when accessing<strong>and</strong> using certain areas of the Interactive System.28. Valid <strong>Game</strong> Play means participation by the Player (via the Website) in this <strong>Game</strong> inaccordance with these <strong>Game</strong> <strong>Rules</strong>.29. Valid <strong>Game</strong> Play Owner means the person who is recognised by the Company as the owner ofthe Valid <strong>Game</strong> Play. The Company will recognise the person who has completed the on-lineregistration process through the Website <strong>and</strong> who enters the <strong>Game</strong> in accordance with the <strong>Game</strong><strong>Rules</strong> <strong>for</strong> this <strong>Game</strong> as the Valid <strong>Game</strong> Play Owner.30. Wallet means an on-line account created by the Player <strong>and</strong> credited with funds from a creditcard in order to play <strong>Game</strong>s, which may hold Prize money <strong>and</strong> is accessible via the Website.31. Website means the NLC interactive <strong>Game</strong> website, which is accessible through URLwww.lottery.ie.GOVERNING LAW AND RULESIn playing <strong>National</strong> <strong>Lottery</strong> interactive <strong>Game</strong>s the Player agrees to abide by the Laws of Irel<strong>and</strong>, theAct, the General <strong>Rules</strong> <strong>for</strong> The <strong>National</strong> <strong>Lottery</strong>, NLC’s Interactive Terms <strong>and</strong> Conditions, the NLCInteractive Privacy Statement <strong>and</strong> these <strong>Game</strong> <strong>Rules</strong>.COST OF PLAYThe price of a <strong>“Snakes</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Ladders</strong>” play will be €2.PURCHASE AND PRIZE RESTRICTIONS1. No <strong>Game</strong> shall be played by, <strong>and</strong> no Prize shall be paid to, any officer or employee of An Post<strong>National</strong> <strong>Lottery</strong> Company or any contractor or sub-contractor involved in the development,support <strong>and</strong>/or maintenance of the Interactive System or Website, or any person prohibited bythe Act from purchasing, owning, or claiming a Prize or any other person prohibited by theInteractive Terms <strong>and</strong> Conditions from purchasing, owning, or claiming a Prize.2. Persons under 18 years of age are prohibited from entering the <strong>Game</strong>.3. The Company will not be responsible <strong>for</strong> lost or stolen devices used to play <strong>Game</strong>s.4. The Company will not be responsible <strong>for</strong> Plays made in error.PROSECUTIONAny person who purchases, owns, or claims a Prize <strong>and</strong> is not entitled to do so, is liable to criminalprosecution.GAME ENTRY MECHANISM1. The Interactive System must be available <strong>for</strong> play.2. A registered Player may play a “Try <strong>for</strong> Free” game <strong>for</strong> notional prizes by selecting the “Try <strong>for</strong>Free” link in the <strong>Game</strong> Play Window.3. In order to play a <strong>National</strong> <strong>Lottery</strong> interactive <strong>Game</strong>, a Player must first register on-line from a linkon www.lottery.ie in accordance with the NLC Interactive Terms <strong>and</strong> Conditions.4. The Player must have a valid Player Account.5. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older to Play the <strong>Game</strong> <strong>and</strong> Prizes will not be paid topersons under 18 years.<strong>Game</strong> <strong>FG</strong> <strong>19</strong> <strong>“Snakes</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Ladders</strong>” Page 5 of 8Version 1 Dec-11

The Player is required to log in to the Interactive System by entering a User ID <strong>and</strong> Password(created during the Player’s original on-line registration process) to gain access to this <strong>Game</strong>.7. When the Player has logged in to the Interactive System a choice of <strong>Game</strong>s will appear. ThePlayer chooses the <strong>“Snakes</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Ladders</strong>” <strong>Game</strong> by clicking on the “Play Now!” link on the <strong>Game</strong>Play Window <strong>and</strong>/or the Player can view more in<strong>for</strong>mation about the <strong>Game</strong> by clicking on the“More Info” link <strong>for</strong> that particular <strong>Game</strong>.8. When the Player opens the <strong>Game</strong> the Interactive System checks to ensure that the Player hassufficient credit in his Wallet to complete the transaction.9. The Player is then given the price of playing a <strong>Game</strong>, at which point the Player is invited to Play.10. The <strong>Game</strong> then connects to the Interactive System which r<strong>and</strong>omly selects a Play from one ofthe Prize Tiers <strong>for</strong> this <strong>Game</strong>. The result <strong>for</strong> a Play is predetermined by the Interactive System.Effectively the Player’s interaction with the <strong>Game</strong> does not impact on the result.11. The opening screen shows instructions on how to play the <strong>Game</strong> <strong>and</strong> the Player must press the“Play” button to commence Play.12. The Player may use the computer’s mouse to play the game.13. The following options are available to the Player at various stages during the <strong>Game</strong>: Play: Starts the <strong>Game</strong> <strong>Game</strong> Help: Displays the <strong>Game</strong> instructions Sound On/Off: Toggles the sound on/off Exit <strong>Game</strong>: Exits the <strong>Game</strong> <strong>and</strong> returns the Player to an in<strong>for</strong>mational page Play Again: Exits the <strong>Game</strong> <strong>and</strong> returns the Player to an in<strong>for</strong>mational page, where thePlayer has the option to Play again.14. An interactive graphic is presented to the Player on the <strong>Game</strong> Play Window which will display aSnakes <strong>and</strong> <strong>Ladders</strong> game board the “board”. The “board” contains 49 squares numbered 1through to 49 inclusive. A square may contain part of a snake symbol or part of a ladder symbolor be designated as an instant win red star prize or an accumulator yellow star prize.15. To commence Play the Player rolls the virtual dice by clicking on the dice icons displayed on theright-h<strong>and</strong> side of the screen. When the Player rolls the dice his counter automatically moves<strong>for</strong>ward the number of squares on the board corresponding to the roll of the dice (starting fromsquare 1). The Player commences with 9 rolls of the dice. The number of “Rolls Left” displayedon the right-h<strong>and</strong> side of the screen above the dice will decrease with each Play.16. Play continues in this fashion until the Player has completed his 9 rolls of the dice.17. The aim of the game is to reach the top prize on the final square of the board (square 49) <strong>and</strong> /orwin as many prizes as possible along the way by l<strong>and</strong>ing on the various instant win red starsquares, <strong>and</strong>/or accumulator yellow star squares <strong>and</strong>/or head of snake or foot of ladder squareswhich are dispersed throughout the game board.18. The Player’s counter must l<strong>and</strong> on squares with the following symbols to collect prizes :a) If the Player’s counter l<strong>and</strong>s on more than two squares with a yellow star symbol he maywin prizes ranging from €2 to €500 based on the number of yellow stars he accumulates.b) If the Player’s counter l<strong>and</strong>s three times on a square with the foot of a ladder symbol he isentitled to a prize of €3.c) If the Player’s counter l<strong>and</strong>s three times on a square with the head of a snake symbol he isentitled to a prize of €5.d) If the Player’s counter l<strong>and</strong>s on a square with an instant win red star symbol he is entitled tothe prize associated with that instant win red star symbol. The instant win red star prizesrange in value from €2 to €5,000.<strong>19</strong>. The Player may win multiple prizes in this game as set out in the Determination of Prizes onpages 7 <strong>and</strong> 8 of these <strong>Rules</strong>. If the Player accumulates multiple wins, he shall be entitled to the<strong>Game</strong> <strong>FG</strong> <strong>19</strong> <strong>“Snakes</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Ladders</strong>” Page 6 of 8Version 1 Dec-11

The total amount won by the Player will be displayed in the<strong>Game</strong> Play Window.20. The Player does not win if he does not either reveal at least three matching prize symbols(snakes, ladders or yellow stars) or win an instant win red star prize.21. Once the Player has completed his 9 rolls of the dice <strong>and</strong> the associated moves by his counteron the game board, the game is over <strong>for</strong> that Player.22. During Play the <strong>Game</strong> Play Window will display a prize table indicating the current number ofaccumulated yellow stars <strong>and</strong> their corresponding prize values, a pair of virtual dice above whichthe number of remaining rolls are indicated, the current instant win red star prize total <strong>and</strong> thecurrent number of snakes <strong>and</strong> ladders accumulated.23. Once the <strong>Game</strong> ends the screen will darken <strong>and</strong> an “Exit <strong>Game</strong>” button, a “Play Again” button<strong>and</strong> any amount won by the Player will be displayed.DETERMINATION OF PRIZES1. A Player who does not either reveal at least three matching symbols (snakes, ladders or yellowstars) or who does not win an instant win red star prize is not entitled to a prize. (Prize Tier 1)2. A Player who wins a €2 instant win red star prize or accumulates 3 x yellow stars (€2) is entitledto a prize of €2 (Prize Tier 2)3. A Player who accumulates 3 x ladders (€3) is entitled to a prize of €3 (Prize Tier 3)4. A Player who wins a €5 instant win red star prize or who accumulates 3 x snakes (€5) or whowins a €2 instant win red star prize <strong>and</strong> accumulates 3 x ladders (€3) or who accumulates 3 xyellow stars (€2) <strong>and</strong> 3 x ladders (€3) is entitled to a prize of €5 (Prize Tier 4)5. A Player who wins a €10 instant win red star prize or a €5 instant win red star prize <strong>and</strong>accumulates 3 x snakes (€5) or who wins a €5 instant win red star prize <strong>and</strong> a €2 instant win redstar prize <strong>and</strong> accumulates 3 x ladders (€3) or who wins a €5 instant win red star prize <strong>and</strong>accumulates 3 x yellow stars (€2) <strong>and</strong> 3 x ladders (€3) is entitled to a prize of €10 (Prize Tier 5)6. A Player who accumulates 4 x yellow stars (€15) or a €10 instant win red star prize <strong>and</strong> a €5instant win red star prize or who wins a €10 instant win red star prize <strong>and</strong> a €2 instant win redstar prize <strong>and</strong> accumulates 3 x ladders (€3) or who wins a €10 instant win red star prize <strong>and</strong>accumulates 3 x yellow stars (€2) <strong>and</strong> 3 x ladders (€3) is entitled to a prize of €15 (Prize Tier 6)7. A Player who wins a €20 instant win red star prize or who wins a €5 instant win red star prize <strong>and</strong>accumulates 4 x yellow stars (€15) or who accumulates 4 x yellow stars (€15) <strong>and</strong> 3 x snakes(€5) is entitled to a prize of €20 (Prize Tier 7)8. A Player who wins a €20 instant win red star prize <strong>and</strong> accumulates 3 x snakes (€5) is entitled toa prize of €25 (Prize Tier 8)9. A Player who wins a €20 instant win red star prize <strong>and</strong> a €10 instant win red star prize is entitledto a prize of €30 (Prize Tier 9)10. A Player who accumulates 5 x yellow stars (€35) or who wins a €20 instant win red star prize <strong>and</strong>accumulates 4 x yellow stars (€15) is entitled to a prize of €35 (Prize Tier 10)11. A Player who wins a €50 instant win red star prize or a €10 instant win red star prize <strong>and</strong> a €5instant win red star prize <strong>and</strong> accumulates 5 x yellow stars (€35) is entitled to a prize of €50(Prize Tier 11)12. A Player who wins a €20 instant win red star prize <strong>and</strong> accumulates 5 x yellow stars (€35) isentitled to a prize of €55 (Prize Tier 12)13. A Player who wins a €50 instant win red star prize <strong>and</strong> a €10 instant win red star prize is entitledto a prize of €60 (Prize Tier 13)14. A Player who wins a €50 instant win red star prize <strong>and</strong> a €20 instant win red star prize is entitledto a prize of €70 (Prize Tier 14)15. A Player who wins a €50 instant win red star prize <strong>and</strong> a €20 instant win red star prize <strong>and</strong>accumulates 3 x snakes (€5) is entitled to a prize of €75 (Prize Tier 15)<strong>Game</strong> <strong>FG</strong> <strong>19</strong> <strong>“Snakes</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Ladders</strong>” Page 7 of 8Version 1 Dec-11

A Player who wins a €50 instant win red star prize <strong>and</strong> accumulates 5 x yellow stars (€35) isentitled to a prize of €85 (Prize Tier 16)17. A Player who wins a €100 instant win red star prize is entitled to a prize of €100 (Prize Tier 17)18. A Player who accumulates 6 x yellow stars (€500) is entitled to a prize of €500 (Prize Tier 18)<strong>19</strong>. A Player who wins a €1,000 instant win red star prize is entitled to a prize of €1,000 (Prize Tier<strong>19</strong>)20. A Player who wins a €5,000 instant win red star prize is entitled to a prize of €5,000 (Prize Tier20)PAYMENT OF PRIZES1. Low Tier Prizes will be paid directly into a Player’s Wallet.2. Mid Tier Prizes will be paid by cheque, stamped “Account Payee Only”, <strong>and</strong> posted to theaddress specified in Your Player Account.3. High Tier Prizes will be paid by cheque, stamped “Account Payee Only”, <strong>and</strong> must be redeemedat NLC headquarters or a prize claim centre (selected An Post Company Offices) following avalidation procedure. When a High Tier Prize claim is made at a prize claim centre (selected AnPost Company Offices) the Prize will be paid by cheque, stamped “Account Payee Only”, whichwill be posted to the address specified in a Player’s Account subject to completion of asatisfactory validation process, including but not limited to verification of a Player’s identity.PRIZESThe Company reserves the right to alter the method of payment of any Prize within this <strong>Game</strong>,subject to the approval of the Minister <strong>for</strong> Public Expenditure <strong>and</strong> Re<strong>for</strong>m.1.
