Fiskars 350 yearsIndustrial activity at Fiskars Village has continuedwithout interruption since 1649, and the 350thanniversary of Fiskars Corporation was celebrated in<strong>1999</strong>.Fiskars is the oldest still active Finnish industrial corporationand has played a significant role in the industrialdevelopment of the country.Numerous events were organized during the jubileeyear mainly at Fiskars Village.The year culminated in the main ceremony on 31October <strong>1999</strong>. The day chosen for the festivities was thesame day on which in 1649 Queen Christina of Swedengranted the privilege to Dutch born Peter Thorwöste toestablish Fiskars Works.The tower clock of the Belfry, whichhas be<strong>com</strong>e the landmark of thehistorical Fiskars Village, showed“Fiskars time“ to the more than100.000 people who visited the Villageduring the Jubilee Year.Sculptor Kauko Räsänen designed Fiskars’ 350th anniversarymedal, minted in silver and bronze. The silver medal No. 1was presented to the President of the Republic of Finland,Mr. Martti Ahtisaari.The second revised edition ofthe book titled “Fiskars 1649– 350 years of Finnish industrialhistory“ appeared duringthe year.Fiskars 350-year history was written by Prof. C.E. Carlson,with a cavalcade of illustrations realized by Prof. Erik Bruun.Also members of Fiskars’ international management team admiredthe historical exposition at the Belfry.The exposition “Fiskars Today“ at the Copper Smithy showed Fiskars products from all over the world andattracted more than 60 000 visitors.4
